T-Mobile S8 Textra Missing Messages

When I attempt to use any other text messaging application besides the stock "Messages" app, I only see roughly half of the text messages that I see within the Messages app. Even sporadic messages within a conversation with a single person are missing. Do other TMobile users have this issue? How can we use a text app other than Messages?

It's not related to any particular app. After using the stock Messages app, when I try to use any other text app (Textra, Google Messages, etc.), less than half of my text message history is there. It leaves no confidence that I'll recieve all my messages in the future if a make any other app my default.

Any other T-Mobile users experiencing this?

I would still recommend contacting Textra's app developers. They are quick to respond to customer feedback and questions - perhaps they are aware of this issue and are working on resolving it. Or, maybe they'll be able to give you a few tips to get your messages back.

I have a T-Mobile s8+ running 7.0 and using Textra on my phone and gear S3. I'm not experiencing any message loss.

In the first instance go to Settings, Apps, the particular app you are referring to, and delete the cache.

If that doesn't sort it, I suggest uninstalling the app, and reinstalling it again.

do you have digits enabled? I was having all sorts of issues. I disabled digits and no problems since.

Here's the feedback I got from the Textra support team. I believe my problem was related to "T-Mobile Solution 2", but time (and missed text messages) will tell. Hopefully others will find this useful:

Check in your stock / pre-installed messaging app by long holding on a message bubble (that was missing in Textra) and select Show Details, if it says "Advanced Message" or "Chat" or "File Transfer" then this is what's referred to as an RCS message, it's not an SMS or MMS message.

That's the issue, although really it's a half baked Android implementation if you can receive messages in an inactive app (stock) and not get any notifications, right!? It's also your MOBILE CARRIER trying to lock you in to their messaging app, not good.

AT&T: You can disable RCS messages to you in your stock Messages app under Settings > Advanced Messaging > Use Advanced Messaging = OFF (make the stock app the DEFAULT app first in order to be able to change the setting).

T-Mobile Solution 1: On some phones, you can disable RCS messages to you in your stock Messages app under Settings > Enhanced messaging = OFF (make the stock app the DEFAULT app first in order to be able to change the setting).

If this setting is not appearing, do the following:
From any Home screen, tap Phone.
Tap the MORE icon.
Tap Settings.
Tap Voice over LTE settings.
Select "Do not use VoLTE"

T-Mobile Solution 2: See https://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-34224#steps2 (set WiFi calling to OFF).

T-Mobile Solution 3: Some users report switching to the pre-installed app, making it the DEFAULT and then switching back to Textra and making it the DEFAULT works.

T-Mobile Solution 4 (digits): Android Settings > Cloud and Accounts > Multi-line settings (tap the 3 dots in the top right corner for more options) and select "log out"

Verizon: Messages+ > Settings > Delete Account (for Integrated Messaging Services)...enter your number and delete. OR Android Settings > Apps > Messages+ > [UNINSTALL UPDATES]

Activating TMobile Digits also caused this for me. I deactivated with solution 4, as well as going into their app under profile and turning off multiple devices. Digits was nice but I missed using Textra.

Thanks for the info about the Multiple Devices setting within the T-Mobile App! I had it disabled in my phone settings (Solution 4), but it was enabled within the T-Mobile app. I never actually used DIGITS, but I recall activating it when I switched to T-Mobile.

Hopefully some combination of #2 and #4 resolves my issue.
