For a long time I didn't have a PIN for my tablet but circumstances have now made it necessary. When I first got the thing, the lock screen would come up every time the display timed out or was turned off but I deactivated that function. But, now that I want it back, I can only get the lock/PIN screen when the device is powered up. When the screen times out and I bring it back up, no lock screen. How do I get that back? I want it locked every time the screen goes off from timing out or whatever.

Go to settings, device, lock screen - change to swipe, pattern, pin or password
I have a tab pro 8.4 & assume yours is the same

I know how to do all that. My problem is that when I enter a PIN, usually the only time it locks is when I first turn it on. If the screen times out, it goes blank but it doesn't lock the device.

Hi brettt777, is it possible the default time settings for the pin lock screen have been changed ? I believe the screen should lock by default after 5 seconds, but I am wondering if yours might be set to lock after a longer period, which could be anything up to 30 minutes. If that's the case, the screen will still go off at the preset time out period, but won't lock until the preset pin lock period has elapsed.

On the Lock Screen page, once you have set your pin, more options will display further down the page. One of the headings is Lock Automatically, and immediately below that it should say whether your pin lock is effective after 5 seconds, 10 minutes, 30 minutes, etc. If it's not at the right setting for you, just tap to adjust settings.

Sorry if you have already checked all of that out.

I know I'm a bit late to the party but it might help someone out nonetheless. I noticed when I added a pin to my tablet that there was a setting right under the Lock Automatically setting called "Lock instantly with power key". Enabling this will lock the tablet whenever you press the power key to turn the screen off.

Bonus coming with Lollipop:
You can add 'trusted places' (like home) to use just swipe again to unlock;
outside of your home it will require the PIN
Makes it much more convenient to use in the secure setting of your home
(unless of course you're trying to keep another member of your household from using :D )
