btw ppl, adding a tablet to your plan is a complete waste of $10. Most phones today have the ability to become a wifi hotspot, just have your tablet to search for your phone's wifi hotspot and walla! you have internet without spending more money.

Unless you are in a 3G only area.... Then you get to choose, is the voice call incoming worth dropping my active data connection for (it will when it rings). It's worth the $10 a month to be able to use data without interruption.

My understanding is that after 6-28 there will be no way for Verizon to create a contract that will include unlimited data. If you upgrade you will lose unlimited data.

Personally I don't think it matters all that much, my guess is that in the next 12 months Verizon will start to "traffic optimize" (throttle) LTE.

Agreed. The days of unlimited fast data are gone (or soon will be). I suspect that all carriers will throttle to the point of it being pointless to keep unlimited data within the next year or 2. There is only so much resource and eventually everyone will pay based on how much they use. Keep in mind that to help out with all of the traffic, Verizon is setting up some huge wifi areas over the next 12 months (malls, Parks, arenas, etc). I believe many stadiums already have a carrier providing wifi, along with bookstores, coffee shops, etc. Just for the heck of it, I made sure to use wifi whenever I was at home or my office during my last billing cycle. I went from over 3 gigs in the prior month, to just under 1 gig last month. I occasionally stream music in my car, but other than that, nearly everywhere I am, I have wifi access.

Is Verizon big on the WiFi hotspot?

The most common ones I see are Starbucks and Barnes & Noble, and they're always by AT&T.

I've never connected to WiFi at Petco Park, Honda Center, Valley View Casino Arena, Viejas Arena, and Staples Center.

Not yet.....but they are launching some big project to add a bunch of places over the next 12 months. They have it at chase field (Diamondbacks).....but I don't know of anywhere else?

Upgraded wife's phone to a Razor MAXX last night. The Sales Rep looks at my info and goes "trying to keep your unlimited data."
I told him I was and that the new plans didn't work for me. It would cost me more per month.
He looks at my data usage and hers and goes "well let's check."
Taps away at his calculator. "That can't be right."
Taps away some more. "Looks like you're right. You are in the 5% of our customers that use more than 2GB a month. The group we want to charge more money."
I appreciated his honesty, but it didn't end there.
He brought up unlimited text and calling. Already get unlimited text, use at most 300 minutes a month.
He brought up hotspot. Wasn't interested.
He finally gave up and tried to see me an extended battery and a new case for my Rezound.
I walked away with a new phone for my wife and my unlimited data locked in for 2 years. We'll see what happens then.

Big question is what happens when all of these LTE iPhones get on the network this Fall. My guess is that there will have to be some traffic optimization (throttling). I think the days of using over 5 gb of data a month on unlimited will be over in the next 12 months. I think it will not be a draconian as AT&T, but will be like the current 3G system - limited to saturated towers.

I have til December on my t-bolt. Will decide then if i will remain a Verizon customer. Paying more for less doesnt really make me excited about renewing. Wireless tether already lets me "share everything".

Monthly share plan of 500 min unlimited texting unlimited data $90 first phone -- $40 second phone -- $40 third phone --- tablet $30 w/2GB data (I get a discount through work off the first phone so - $20) ---- to get unlimited minutes for a business we had to get a $50 prepaid phone that was the cheapest option. So now it is $180 for 500 shared min, unlimited texts, unlimited data, 2GB on tablet and another $50 for unlimited minutes on prepaid phone = total $230 (We never use more than 2GB on the phones and tablets -- use wifi) WE NEED unlimited minutes. If we switch it will be $40 x 3 for the phones plus $10 for the tablet --- go with 8GB of data for $90 (I will get a discount on this of $20 so that knocks it down to $70). That would make it $200 total with unlimited minutes. If I am correct, this new plan would save us money. Where is the beer? I prefer Bud Light.

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but my wife and her sister are currently on a shared plan and they will most likely be saving money.

They currently are on the second-highest talk plan (2000 shared minutes) and unlimited data, but they each only use about 100MB of data a month. They pay over $200 a month.
With the new plan they would move up to unlimited talk and down to 4GB of data, which would still be well in their range. That would be closer to $150.

It will be a bigger savings too when I move to their plan, giving up my $90 plan on sprint and only adding $50 to their plan.

I called today to find out if I would save money. Nope. It will actually be $10 more a month for the 10 gb data plan and $4 more for the 8gb plan. Heck I even saved another $18 by switching my current plan from the 1400 min to 700 min plan. So no thanks vzw, you can keep your share everything.

Doing the math & comparison on the VZW website looks like I'd be right in this ballpark, too. I like that -- I think my problem in switching is that it's a scary thought to give up something that is unlimited. I really don't have a big data usage - 1G or less a month and that's held steady for a VERY long time. I have no clue what's holding me back considering my low data usage. Must be a brain game going on in my head.

If it saves you money, go ahead and switch. If it doesn't save you money, don't switch. Simple as that. Sad that some can't get over it.

only problem I have with that sentiment is saving you money now, may cost you more in the long run, as you get faster more data hungry devices and apps, what was comfortable today will be minimal tomorrow, wasnt long ago 512 was enough memory or 3g was blazing fast and we all had gps standalones, now the phone does it all and it all uses data

I also have felt the same way about the new plans. I thought I was getting ripped off hearing we will lose the unlimited data and if we want to keep it will have to pay full retail for the phones. I was very much ready to pay retail to keep my unlimited. I thought losing it would be horrible and a real rip off. I had looked over the plans and thought it would cost me more. I was factoring in the laptop and my tablet and didn't realize I have the Mifi which would be covering it and there would be no additional cost to them. It is the netbooks and tablets from Verizon that get the monthly fee. Not wifi devices.
I have my smartphone and the Mifi that I use for my internet. I have unl?mited data and text on a 900 min plan with friends and family. I found out on heavy use I was using no more than 4 gig of data. i don't stream video or watch movies. I am big on Pandora though. Also my email for work and personal and then the sites I frequent, banking etc.
I was really serious about paying full retail on a phone to keep my unlimited data. I was not a person so easily convinced. I do get a corporate discount and switching to the Mifi 4G for my internet also made my current cost lower and also allowed me to get a wifi tablet and I love my Samsung Galaxy tab. I have the best now with my laptop and the tablet and then of course, my Thunderbolt. A friend of mine switched from her media phone to a smartphone and took the share everything. Got me thinking if I could save money, lets check it out and see. And I am surprised. I have said on other posts to be open minded about it AFTER admitting I was stubborn.....but making a change can be difficult when you are used to one thing over another and really think it is the best for you. With the economy as it is and wanting to save and cut corners, it is going to work out great for me.
I am choosing 6 gig of data for my phone, laptop and tablet and then I don't have have to worry about the talk and I am used to having unlimited texting. My job location has wifi so I can have my phone on wifi while at work. And that wasn't in the factor till I realized it. DUH! For someone who is a data hog this will not work, but am not a data hog. I did think I used more but am glad I found out I don't. And I can increase it if I need to.
So, check out the plans and be realistic when you do. Look over your data use and if you have to control the kids......you control the kids......or have them pay the bill.
I am saving with my corporate discount 30 a month and that's a huge savings in these times.

That is awesome.

Again, losing the "safety" of unlimited data can be tough for some to swallow. But if you really think about your usage and find you can save money, by all means go for it.

And again, no one is being forced to switch to Share Everything. No one is being forced to give up their unlimited data plan. If you want to keep unlimited data, there are ways to keep unlimited data.
