Sorry man, but I'm calling partial BS on this one.
First of all, you're chilling at 105MB of
internal storage, NOT memory. There isn't currently a way to check available system memory without having a task manager like ATM or Task Panel X.
There's absolutely
no possible way for you to know if those programs that automatically open themselves are doing it anymore (like peep, footprints, etc) without a task manager to see that they're open behind the scenes. After all, it was a surprise to us with ATM and TPX that those were even running, because we saw no instance of them at all. Without a task manager, you'd be blind to this altogether.
So, I call partial BS on this part of your findings.
However, I totally agree with your suggestions about letting it manage its own memory, and how the apps close after time and so forth. I think you're spot-on there.
I would say that as long as you're NOT auto killing anything, it's perfectly fine to use one of the task managers. For nothing else but to monitor apps that are running and memory. If the app is passive (meaning it's not actively managing apps by killing them) then how can it interfere with operations at all?
just my 2 cents, and I registered just to post this. I'm glad you're doing this with HTC though, this is a good thing!
One issue you might bring up with them is the fact that some apps, after updating to a new version, will revert back to their previous versions after a reboot, without notification to you. Some of those include Pandora, Advanced Task Manager, Mileage, etc. See this post at XDA Developers forum for more info:
App versions reverting without notice. Could be a major bug. - xda-developers
