Tasker Ideas for Note 3!

I have a number of tasks set up, in a few categories. Most of them are fairly simple though. My general category has a recipe to remind me about Amazon's free app of the day, to configure home and work settings (time-based), and unlock the phone when I'm at home or my parents' house (using passcode). My sound group has recipes to silence the phone overnight (and dim the screen with the Screen Filter app), silence during meetings (which I don't use because I like the BusyMe app's settings better), and to silence it when I open the camera (work-around to prevent shutter noise when taking pictures). I have some location based ones, too, that work off "cell near" for home, work, etc. and are used to toggle WiFi on when I'm near them and off when I'm not. Then I have some sync-related recipes -- data goes off and on with the screen, but goes on for 2 minutes every hour if I'm not on my home WiFi to allow some periodic checking, turn off sync and network connections overnight. Those are very brief notes about what I have. If you want to know more, let me know and I'll try to provide some more details. And yes, Tasker is an amazingly powerful app. I used to run about 3 or 4 other apps to do the same kind of automation before I got Tasker, but switching helped consolidate things and save battery. As noted, the one exception is with silencing my phone during meetings, for which I still use BusyMe because it makes it easier to silence the phone before the Google calendar event's start time and unsilence it after the end time, both of which are useful to me and I couldn't easily figure out how to do in Tasker.

Awesome stuff folks. Getting off topic (Tasker profiles) a bit, but this is my first NFC capable phone... Looking forward to playing with it. And kinda makes me realize just how powerful Tasker is.

Actually you can use tasker with your NFC stuff, I think that is what he is talking about. SO the Nfc tab triggers the task. This is my first NFC phone so I haven't had a chance to play with it. It is on my to do list..

For those that have figured out how to have it disable the lock (pattern or pin), coudl you please provide the details or a screenshot or something? I would love to have the security lock disabled when i connect to my car's bluetooth or my home's wifi or cell tower or whatever, but enabled every other time. i cant figure it out.

Yes but you might need to get Secure Setting form play to do it. After installing go into the app and somewhere in the options you need to install the helper. That gives you more options through Tasker.
In Tasker you will need to setup profiles States that will trigger on your bluetooth, wifi, ex. In the tasks go to plug ins and select secure setting. Look through the list and there is an option to add pin. On this one set it to disable because you want the pin off when connected. Once you are done go back to the profiles screen a tap on the profile you just made, the press and hold on the task that you just made until the pop up window ask you if you want to add a exit task, add it, in the exit task go back in to the secure setting and back to the pin or password option, this time enable it and set the password you want.
Hopefully this will at least get you started. It is actually a great idea and I might have to set this up. Let me know if you run into any road blocks. The only one I can think of is you might need root to set pins. I could be wrong, I have always been rooted so I am not sure.

yup, secure settings says you have to be rooted to run the helper program you mentioned. which is a whole 'nother question.

I just checked and it looks like you might not need root or helper to change pin/password. First click secure settings the app(not through Tasker) and go to the preferences wrench at the top. Enable device admin. Then in Tasker go into task/plug-ins/secure settings and see if pin/password is in there.

you sir, are a genius. they will build monuments to your greatness

lol I will take that as it worked then. Glad to help!

Worked perfect. I didn't have a pass code set but now I will! I'll just have it turned off when I'm on any of my main Wifi places and turn it off when connected to car blue tooth.

This is great and didn't have to root!

Still have to figure out how to root on the Mac.. That greenify app looks tempting.

Edit: can't get it to relock the phone even after setting the exit task. Might have to be rooted.

Sddabrow,

Hmm.. Are you sure you have the device admin set in secure settings? See post above. I don't see why it wouldn't. So you have the task as remove pin/pass and the exit task to add pin/pass and set it to what you want. So when you connect to your wifi of choice and then go back into Tasker the profile should be lite green if it is active. Then when you disconnect wifi and go back into Tasker it should go back to gray or white showing that it is inactive. Make sure that is working.

Got it!

Actually had to go to the phones security settings and enable Tasker as a device manager.. Not sure why that wasn't checked in the first place.

Works with a pin now! No pattern but beggars can't be choosers.

You actually can set a pattern with secure settings but that one for sure requires root. Maybe a project for a rainy day! ;-)

Sure thing, Samsung LED Controller plugin: https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...tinyroar.galaxys3ledcontroller&token=y51xKrgy

Works brilliantly. Controls power and blocking modes in addition to LED.

Thanks also found out these are in the secure settings plug in.

No more obnoxious blocking mode notification in my notification bar.

Tasker is awesome and I keep looking for things to automate lol.

Well got another one. I actually went back to using S-Voice for certain things.. as I find it better than Google Voice for texting and reading out texts. But I HATE when I say 'Hi Galaxy' and the phone is on silent... can't hear S-Voice at all and have to get up to turn on the volume up.

Simple Task to turn the media volume up when S-Voice is opened. Perfect.

Need some advice.

I'm trying to set it up to where if I disconnect from Wifi, my blue tooth turns on. I have that set as an exit task.

I now want to add an additional setting to that exit task and work so if it does not connect to blue tooth within 2 minutes of disconnecting from Wifi, it turns blue tooth off.

Any suggestions?

I have a answer but it's a little long and I am out to eat I will give the step by step when I get a chance.

Ok got it and tested it. Seems to be working good! So to do this you will need to use variables. I don't know if you have used them yet but basicly they are, well variables, being that they change depending on the state of the phone. There are a bunch built in to tasker but as far as I know there isn't one that detects if bluetooth is actually connected or not. So I had to build my own. So this is how it goes..

1. Make a profile state/net/bluetooth connection(not bluetooth status). In the menu leave all the fields as they are so it will work for any bluetooth connection.
2. Make a new task, name it like bluetooth switch on or something.
3. In the task hit the plus sign to add one, then go to variable/variable add
4. In variable add at the top where it say name, type %Bluetoothswitch make sure you have one upper case and the % sign in front. Then set it to add 1.
5. Go out and add an exit task to the profile you just created, name it like bluetooth switch off. In this one go to variable/variable subtract. This time at the name slot if you tap the dog tag like things at the top you should be able to find your bluetoothswitch in the list. Then make sure the subtraction is set at 1.
6. Now how I did the wifi thing is I made a state/Net/wifi connected, then at the bottom of the wifi connection I checked the box invert. That just makes it do the opposite, so when you disconnect from wifi it will activate. Then make a task and give it a name.
7. In the task go to net/bluetooth. In the settings have it set bluetooth to on. Click the back button.
8. Hit the add button again to add another task, go to Tasker/Wait. In the menu set it to 2 mins. Click the back button again.
9. Add a third task, this time go back to Net/bluetooth. In the menu set it to bluetooth off. Then go to the bottom and check the box if. When you check the if box a new line will appear. Click the dog tags and find your %Bluetoothswitch. Then click the box with the symbol on it and select "Matches". Then in the last line put a 1.
10. Back to the profile menu and find the profile you just made with the wifi discconect. Hold down on the actual name of the profile, not the state or task. If you did what I did it should say "not wifi connected". Hold until the options appear at the top of the screen. Tap the preferences tab. In preferences, uncheck the box that says restore settings.

You should be good now. After you disconnect Wifi it will activate the 2nd profile we just made. It will then turn on bluetooth. If Something connects to the bluetooth it will turn on the switch and then it will not shut the bluetooth off. If nothing connects it will turn the bluetooth off after 2 mins.
One note! If you don't seem to have the same options as me make sure your Tasker isn't in beginner mode!
Hope it goes well! Let me know if you have any problems. It might not be the cleanest but it is the only way I can think of right now.

Thanks! Variables were exactly what I was thinking. Did it slightly different but same premise. Have it set for 10 seconds in these pictures but I'll play with the timing later.

I'm in and out of my house often for sales so this should work great. Thanks for the help!
