Tasker Ideas for Note 3!

Great thread! Thanks for the good ideas! Keep this going!

This thread is great - I hadn't grabbed Tasker yet but after reading more about it (and the nice Google Play credit from Samsung...) I picked it up and having a blast. Haven't gotten very complicated yet but the first thing I've used it for is to manage my screen timeouts. I am required by my corporate setup to have a full lock password so I had installed NiLS and picked up Widget Locker so I could at least have nice wake up notifications on a custom lock screen. I then used Tasker to change the timeout to 7 seconds when locked so the notifications wake the screen up but just long enough to see if I am nearby but then switch the timeout to 30 seconds when unlocked. That combined with Smart Screen/Smart Stay makes it behave the way I want and saves on battery by not having the screen on any more than I need it to.

Tasker is excellent.

The Wiki, xda, and to a lesser extent Youtube are also great resources. (I get stuck a lot - good on ideas, short on talent. :) )

I love tasker, I'm obsessed with it.

A lot of great stuff, some twists on ones already mentioned.
** My Best Trick ** - when SNote starts it turns the screen time out to 15 minutes, I hated taking notes and having to constantly re-turn on my phone. Also sets brightness so the white snote background doesn't kill your battery (or your eyes).

1. Work - (uses wifi) When I arrive (or leave) at work, I have it put a calendar entry in my calendar. Great for time tracking and getting a sense of a normal schedule (my schedule is definitely not consistent and I have to report hours).
3. Car - (uses Bluetooth) Using secure settings (I'm rooted) I have it change the font to HUGE (through secure settings plugin), don't promote texting and driving, but changing music or doing whatever is easier with bigger font in my car holder.
4. Netflix - when app netflix is loaded, I start wifi (just in case I'm not connected).
5. Sleep Tracking App (I use SleepasAndroid) - Waits 5 minutes and turns on airplane mode, also sets a calendar setting, when app closes it puts my wakeup time.

Bonus tip: Note Buddy (https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...d=com.tushar.spen_helper&hl=en&token=P3bJ9t4v) will add even more tasker functionality to the SPEN itself and also allows you to change the sound when the stylus is taken out. Hello Lightsaber sound effects (read that one online elsewhere haha).

Geek guys, seems complicated. Anyway I bought it. Running a note 3 here. What else I need?

Let's start with something small for me to learn.
I would like the "brightness of the phone" to be at 100 from 8 am to 6 pm.
How do I do that?

I also installed Tasker in an attempt to make it do one thing - remove the volume warning when I'm using headphones. As yet I still haven't managed to do it.

For the first timers to Tasker - Please review these short but informative tutorials. They will hold your hand and almost write your tasks for you! Then start d/l other's more complex tasks and go through them and figure out what they do. You will be amazed in how better your phone works for YOU.

Beginner's guide to Tasker

Ask tons of questions when you get stuck, and folks will help you out. Don't ask people to write your task for you - You need to put effort first by reading and then attempting.

This one is super simple, but hopefully it'll help someone. Firstly, I HATE auto-rotate. It drives me absolutely crazy when it's on ALL the time. But some applications, demand it -> like YouTube or your favorite browser.

Here's a solution:

Set a profile that's set when "YouTube, Chrome Browser, Netflix, etc. (apps that need auto-rotate)" - then make a Task / Action that enables auto-rotate, and then set an Exit Task that disables it when the apps are off / exited. Works like a charm.

These are all great ideas! Now, I was trying to create a profile that would remind me to make a journal entry.

I want it to happen sometime between 5pm and and 10pm but only if i have been on my phone presumably wasting time or just readings news. So, after 2 minutes of screen on time I would like it to Flash "How was Your Day?" and open a note taking app.

My issue with this is that i dont know if there is a screen on time variable. the way i have it setup now, the app will open after 2 minutes once the screen is on at one time. I could lock the phone, wait two minutes, open it up and the app would open (evernote). Is there a screen on time variable?
