Tasker to generate Time/Date stamps?

I'm a refugee from PalmOS, via SymbianOS, and am more or less resigned to Android. I really miss the shortcuts in PalmOS to insert a Time, Date or Time/Date stamp into a section of text. I've seen suggestions that Tasker can be made to perform this function, but I can't see how to do it nor have I found any specific examples of how to. I realize it might be trivial for Tasker power users, but I'm not one. An actual text SHORTCUT that signaled Tasker to then grab the desired info and pasted it into the working document over the shortcut text would be nice, though not sure that's even possible. I'll settle for a two-tap solution if the former is impossible. Anyone know how to do this?
