Have a Nook Color running Android 2.3 on it's own chip (NC is not rooted, just remove chip and I'm back to PON--Plain Old Nook)

I sometimes teather my winbox to my Droid.

Any way to teather the NC to the Droid? I have EZ Teather.

I tether mine to my rooted droid incredibke via the wireless tether app from the market. Is your phone rooted? If so try that. It wasnt lossible before wpa encryption became available on the tether app. I know nothing about easy tether. Does it offer encryption?

Not over USB that I know of. I use Android Wireless Tether on my Droid. The phone must be rooted. Be sure to set it up with encryption and access control.

The Nook connects seamlessly through the Droid. Add the GPS Tether app and you can run Google Maps with geolocation on your Nook.

The issues is the difference between Ad Hoc and Infrastructure networking. Certain phones support it, some don't. I'm using a rooted Droid X, and Wireless Tether for root. Initially, it didn't work for me, but when I updated to the newest version of the app, infrastructure was supported.

Not interested in rooting my Droid.

As for tethering on a Droid X....why? This phone has a hot spot capability. (I was just looking at one at Verizon). And i have an unlimited data plan...

Because if your phone isn't rooted and you want to run the mobile hotspot, you have to pay an extra 20 bucks a month (On top of your monthly data plan and service charges). When rooted, you can use a hotspot app and bypass verizon's extra charges.

Yep, that's the kicker right there... "Unlimited" data isn't really unlimited. In most cases, if you read the fine print, it's 5GB a month (which most "normal" users wouldn't ever go over, so it's a safe gamble on Verizon's part). If you want to enable hot spot access, they charge you an extra $20 a month, which I believe is still cheaper than picking up one of the MiFis, but still $20 more than I want to pay!

I've used barnacle a few times to connect my NC to my Fascinate, works fine.
