Tell us your buying experience!

Store opened at 9am. I called ahead but was told they couldn't discuss stock levels. I wasn't able to escape the office immediately so I arrived as soon as I could at 9.35.

  • 20 people in line ahead of me, outside the store
  • 2-3 people inside the store. (Already logged into the sales queue by the manager, waiting for their names to be called.)
  • 4-5 reps handling sales.

So around 30 people still there purely for the GN 35 minutes after opening. Another 7 or 8 people eventually joined the line behind me.

The store manager was flitting between inside and out, logging the first couple of people in the "outside" line into the sales queue as sales moved through. Wouldn't let on about the stock levels though. Much later he did talk to the people at the back of the line -- assumedly letting them know that they *may* not have stock for them -- but at no point was he willing to give any more info than that, no solid figures.

At 10.50 I finally got logged into the sales queue and allowed inside to browse/wait. About 11am -- after almost 90 minutes of waiting in line -- I reached a sales rep.

Nexus, new contract, please. Rep checked the stock room. Emerged again after a couple of minutes. Talked to the manager. Rep went back into the stock room. I got a bad feeling. Rep came out of the stock room: sorry, we just ran out. :(

Manager came over to double check the stock screen against his sales queue/log, confirmed what the rep was saying. Both guys apologized. (Though they seemed almost surprised to have run out that soon, which was bizarre considering that's just about all the store had been doing all morning and they were tracking it.) The guys who had been standing in line behind me and were awaiting their turn came over and joined in my disappointment. The other (cute, female) sales rep next to us looked over and gave a kind of adorable frowny/pouty face in sympathy when she overheard, too, which made things marginally less sucky.

To their credit:

  • They were very apologetic. (If oddly surprised at having reached the end of the stock so suddenly.)
  • They checked stock in the other local stores, but noted that they also looked low and probably had lines waiting so it would be worth calling ahead.
  • The rep explained that they couldn't confirm when they'd receive in stock because they don't request shipments, they just receive drop shipments (seemingly at random), so they could potentially have more phones tomorrow or (outside chance) possibly even later today.
  • The rep did also take my name and number without prompting, and offer to call and hold one for me if they did get more in stock today/tomorrow.

So, while I was still irritated to be leaving without the phone and at having wasted an hour and a half standing outside in the cold (and with having to figure out a "plan B"), I didn't leave angry at the store staff. They were as efficient and empathetic and helpful as they could be in the situation. I'm not a current VZW customer so I'm still unimpressed with the whole corporate handling of this mess -- from the lack of communication, to the lack of launch day stock, to the apparent corporate ban on discussing stock levels with customers -- but the actual store staff did a good job of giving me hope that the entire VZW experience may not be the same.

Wow.

Walked into best buy mobile at 8:15 and It was empty. Traded in my razr and walked out twenty minutes later working perfectly. I was the only one in the store the whole time. He didn't turn it on just put the sim in and just gave it straight to me, Perfect. The guy said he got the email go ahead only a few minutes before I came in and said I was the first one there. Oh and I got a free set of headphones as a promo they are doing for a few days on the nexus.

It's 1220 est and still no green light to sell yet. Anyone else running into the same thing?

I am not sure what the issue was at this particular Best Buy Mobile, but went back 1 hour later and they sold me one, all good, in and out in 20 minutes.

I am not sure if they will run out of Stock, but if anyone is in NYC and having trouble finding one then best buy mobile in midtown on 7th Av has them in stock. I was the only one they have sold so far at 2pm.

My local corp store had atleast 17 people in line this morning at 930, and another 22 at lunch. They ran out at somepoint I know as they now have a "sold out" sign.

Nice and easy. Stopped at a premium retailer this morning when they opened at 9:15 and was surprised to see one person activating one. I live in kind of an isolated area and did not expect that.

Went smoothly though, 20 minutes and i was out. I'm in love now. :D

I wanted to return my lemon. The bb i went to told me i had to go back to the BB that sold it me early. Pretty much everyone but the guy who did the return was angry at me hahahah he asked me if i was the one on engadget...his boss asked me to same thing lol she hated me it was great. I did find out that employees of BB harrassed our favlrite clerk and they were fired for violating company policy other then that nothing happened .....in fact the guy who did my return said VZW officials were there a day later after they sold it to us and were "ecstatic" for all the free viral marketing they were getting and loved us and the BB. Pretty damn funny encounter. Anyways i returned my nex walk xcross the street bought a new one at vzw

I had more trouble getting to the store than getting the phone :)
Woke up at 6:15, went to the bus stop at 6:45 but got on the wrong bus (westbound instead of eastbound), but got off at the other end of campus - walked back to the bus stop, got on the right bus, made it to Verizon at about 7:45 (they opened at 7). The lady said there were three people who wanted the Nexus before me, took down my name and number and she'd call me when it was my turn. I went to Caribou Coffee next door, had a drink, then went back to the store. The lady said the person before me hadn't shown up, so it was my turn!

Went up to the counter where the CSR went and got my Nexus. I was able to arrange to use my mom's line's upgrade (she got a new dumbphone last night and didn't need the upgrade, plus her line had a $50 coupon on it for upgrading). Also bought the case-holder-car charger-screen protector bundle ($50 normally, $37.50 with 25% off accessories) and some microfiber cloths (like $4). So the overall cost was about $313.
I stuck around in the store waiting for the phone to activate and getting it set up. About ten minutes later I got the update to 4.0.2. Then I left and came back to college

OK, I am at my local store and it's CROWDED!! I am 45 minutes late. Figured it wouldn't be problem, but boy was I wrong. I am about 10th in line. Looong wait!!

I went to my local store at 2:00pm and there was no one else there. All of the employees were just standing there waiting for people to come. I was in and out in less than half an hour.

I work nights from 10PM to 6AM and get in bed at 7AM, get up at noon for another job. Well I wasn't planing on staying up 2 hours after I got home to get the phone. Called the Verizon store near me last night and they had 50 in stock so I wasn't to worried.

Got up at 11AM and called the store, still 30 in stock. Got there at 11:45 and didn't have to wait, still had 25 in stock. Told them I wanted a new phone, the guy asked which one. I said the Nexus and he said "I knew better then to ask" with a grin. Got the phone, lady had jacked up finger nails so I put in the sim card and battery then logged on with my gmail. So they didn't mess with it. Got the phone for $250, got a case (Incpio) a car charger (only reason I got it is because it is usb) and screen protector for $50. Only other thing they had was a couple different cases.

In and out in 15 mins, had time for lunch before headed to work :)

Just got back from the VZW store. Since I was there in the afternoon, there was no line per se, but I was about third in the check-in queue to be helped. It went very smoothly and only took me about 20-30 min. to finish the transaction, and that included switching my account from AT&T. The associate who helped me was very friendly and knew what she was doing. She did seem a little unsure about how to do some "back office" type things on ICS and admitted that she didn't know that much about it.

Overall, it was a pleasant experience at the store.

Went to BJ's club at 9:00, which is when they usually open but they have holiday hours in effect, so I was an hour late. Still there were no customers at the Verizon kiosk, so I got the first one they sold today. I was driving home with it at 9:25! Got it for $259 after company discount and added the silicone case, making total $298. Selling my OG Dinc and Dinc2 to defray costs (or at least that's what I'm telling the wife). The Verizon rep was the kiosk manager and he put in the sim card and battery, replaced the cover and booted it up. Once it activated he handed it over. Overall, a great experience. Two more guys showed up while I was standing there and it didn't seem to me inventory was going to be an issue. One interesting thing the manager told me was that the update it would get within 12 hours was what caused the launch delay. He said it had to pass through testing.

Went on line to attampt to buy. The 50.00 credit that the CSR told me I would get was not showing up. So I called CSR to try again to get the 100.00 credit or at least make sure I got the 50.00.
Ended up talking to a total of 8 CSR's with 4 phone calls over 2.5 hrs and multiple promises with no results. Each one was from a different dept. and they all seemed to have different deals that they could do. Tried Telesales so I could use my living social coupon but they wanted 299.00 for the phone and then my 30.00 loyalty discount. Online sales had me getting the phone for 249.00 and I should have gotten the 30.00 on top of that. I could see where I was entitled to it but they could not and she insisted it was included in the 249.00. price.
I finaly hung up on her and called telesales again. She couldn't give me the 249 price, but was able to see how the online was not recognizing the 30.00 discount so she credited my account the 30.00. Then I asked about free shipping. they had a page that the title said free 2 day shipping, but then the text said free overnight shipping. The order form was charging me 12.99 for overnight. So she then credited 12.99 to my account.
After I activate the phone, another CSR is supposed to credit my account another 50.00 based on an eariler phone call.
So I got the phone for 169.00 plus tax and I still have the living social coupon to use to buy an extended battery and other stuff!
I will have it all tomorrow. Well worth the wait! Hope it is worth the aggravation!

I got to the VZW store around noon. The store was pretty crowded, all the reps were checking out customers, and I was placed 11th in the queue. After 20 min, I hear a customer making a fuss. Apparently they just sold out. I leave, call the next closest VZW and they are also sold out. Third store I tried had some in stock. As I was checking out, people were calling the store asking if they had the nexus in stock. They had 5 left after me, but there was already a line so they were telling people no.

I got the phone for $250 w/ my discount. I used my $50 livingsocial voucher to get the OtterBox defender case, and I also picked up the spare batter w/ battery charger for $30.

I was happy walking out with the phone, otterbox, spare battery, and battery charger for less than $300.

I got to my local store 5 minutes before opening. 3 other people were waiting outside. Nothing much else happened. The employees there were clearly NOT trained on how to work this phone. They were going to try to use the SIM out of my Bionic for the Nexus. It was fun informing the employees on what the phone needs and doesn't need. I stopped a rep from selling some guy (getting a Nexus also) a SD Card. The rep looked at me and checked the phone and laughed. Oh what a mess this launch was, but I really don't care. I actually watched my rep play with a couple things before giving it to me ("Setting/activating apps" haha). Most of them in the store couldn't wait to upgrade to the Nexus. Google and Samsung both really outdid themselves with this device. All in all, a great day!
