Telus pop email on Rogers phone?

Hi all,
I'm about ready to pull my hair out! I'm trying to setup my work email on my S4.
Our work email is pop3, so we use our pop3.ourdomain.com as the incoming mail server, but our internet is hosted by Telus, so we use smtp.telus.net (or mail.telus.net) as our outgoing mail server.
I'm currently able to receive emails on my phone at all times, but the only time I'm able to send from my phone is when I'm on the wifi at work. Which is completely useless, because I have my computer at work to send email.

I've tried using Roger's outgoing mail server to no avail, and when I have Telus' outgoing mail server it only works while on our Telus wifi.
*sigh*

If anyone has any suggestions or has the same situation, please help!

Thanks very much!
Bianca

Oh, and, I have tried calling both Rogers and Telus, neither of whom were able to give me any useful suggestions. Telus won't help me because my phone is not with them, and Rogers said I should be using Telus' smtp server.

Probably your trouble is this...

The smtp.telus.net outgoing server works on your work WiFi because you're on Telus Internet service. It fails otherwise, when you're away from work because the Telus server rejects non-Telus traffic.

Using the Rogers outgoing server probably fails for the same reason. Companies do this mostly to keep bad guys from using their mail servers to send mass quantities of spam.

Since your company has a private domain (ourdomain.com) and a server name for incoming mail, no doubt they also have an outgoing server. Something like smtp.ourdomain.com.

You need to get the settings for the company outgoing server and enter them into your email app. You should be good to go then.

After 18 minutes on hold I finally got through to tech support for our mail/domain hosting company and he said they only host our incoming mail, the outgoing mail is all handled by our internet provider.
HOW IS THIS EVEN A THING?!
He said I need to call Rogers and see if they have smtp relay or server that will work.
I give up! I'm going to find a work-around (like replying from a gmail account or something equally archaic), this is just stupid.

But thank you, Crashdamage, for you suggestion - I do appreciate it. If you have any further ideas I would love to hear them!

Unbelievable that your company has only incoming mail service, and friggin' POP3 at that! No offense, but that's a heckuva cheap company!

All I can suggest you have already mentioned - use your Gmail outgoing server.

Lotsa luck!

Yep, ended up making another gmail account to send from. So now I have to send using that one. Super lame!!
The company who hosts our email is apparently moving away from that part of the business, so I'm not even surprised that they didn't have an answer for me. I'm looking at replacing them.

Thanks again for responding!
