Tempted By HTC 10?

OK so went to Verizon to check out the 10. I'm not impressed. It's nice, but I can't see any reason in the world to ditch the 6p for it. I think it gives the illusion of better build quality because it's small and hefty for its size. The camera wasn't great, slow motion is awful, and sense is OK bit I don't see how people are saying it's close to stock Android. I counted 8 bloats at a glance, and it looks very different than stock.

Got a link to that review? My HTC 10 battery is great. Mediocre battery? What on earth is he comparing it to? As far as the BoomSound goes you get more bass at the expense of the defined stereo separation of say the M8. It still sound good though.

No kidding. I take my HTC 10 off the charger at 7:30 in the morning and put it back on the charger after midnight and I'm always around 60% battery life on moderate use. A few years ago I had a Droid Maxx which was supposed to be 'good battery life' and it wasn't as good as the HTC 10 in that area even though it had a bigger battery and crappy screen.

I don't get this.... Why not just wait for the Nexus 10? Best of both worlds...

I didn't wait because I doubt that we'll get the best of both worlds because Nexus lovers are a bunch of whiney lil bishes. If they can't get a flagship phone with all the bells and whistles of every other flagship for 200.00 cheaper, then you better start pulling out big blocks of cheese. LMAO! So, you will not get that great 24bit DAC and boom sound and that great metal build with the latest processors all under one hood. It will not happen! You'll get a great OS and camera in a phone with the latest hardware, but you will not get some of the other things that make HTC special. Bet?

When you say "whiney lil bishes", I doubt your maturity.

Anyway, the Nexus 6p had everything that the current gen phones had, with a great build (yes it bends, so did the iPhone 6, get over it), for a cheaper price then the competitors.

The HTC continues to run, frequently $100 off promotion. There are running this promotion because they can afford to take a lose. They are still making a profit, thus the phone is cheaper to make then you believe.

HTC is a dying company at the moment. VR and the rumored contract with Google is there only hope of surviving. The HTC 10 may be selling well, but it isn't getting a major push out side of verizon.

It is in Google's and HTC's best interest to make a great Nexus phone that is similarly priced to the 6p. The HTC 10, Galaxy S7, iPhone 6s aren't priced higher than the 6p (or 2015 era phones if you wish) because they have vastly superior hardware. They are priced higher because people will pay that for the name brands. HTC made a mistake pricing the phone at the same level as the "big boys". Phone are overpriced in general, and the 6p shows that.

To sum it up, a high price point doesn't equal superior hardware or software; rather consumer demand dictates price.

I suppose i deserved the immature jab, but that aside. What exactly are you saying? Commit to something. Are you saying that Google will present the best of Nexus and HTC at a reduced price or not? Because, I'm saying they will not give us the best of both without a premium price. And, I guarantee that Nexus fans will find a reason to not like the phone if it's premium priced. Nexus fans want premium without premium price. So, despite you trying to put a spin on your answer, I'll also comment in terms you like. Google's asking price for a premium HTC/Nexus device is guaranteed to be premium if the the device includes the audio codecs and hardware of the HTC 10 AND Nexus fans will absolutely whine and complain about it, despite having the best of both worlds. The lack of demand based on price for the device may eventually save you some money, but by the time the whiners do so much complaining, the device will likely be a bust. It was the exact same story with the Nexus 6 and it was a great phone. That's a bet!

Fair enough, but I don't totally agree.

The Nexus may not get boomsound, since part of that is software. It may, or may not have the superior audio codecs. I wouldn't be surprised either way honesty. HTC may want to withhold that, or Google may pressure them to include it so that Google can market the sound. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised to see a HTC made Nexus that is very similar to the HTC 10. I imagine the design language, etc will be similar. It is more cost effect to stick with the manufacturing ability already in place. I think it is highly, highly likely we see a HTC Nexus with an obvious HTC design, and thus similar build quality. Why else would Google be turning to HTC?

The HTC Nexus will match the HTC 10 in hardware, minus the audio maybe, and possibly surpass it in some area.

The Nexus 6 was a great phone....but the Nexus 6p was better. It had a better screen, more premium materials, a better camera, and better hardware all around. It had the best possible processor available at the time, and honestly it was the only phone to manage the 810's thermal problems. The 6p was/is superior to the 6, and it had a lower price point.

Simply, the Nexus 6p was arguably the best phone made last year, and the price was reasonable. If Google release $700+ phone as the starting price, I imagine sales will suffer. I doubt google will make the same mistake twice, and I doubt the phone will be a bust (however it is you define that).

I think it's still the best for the price. Also, I think Google would do right by sticking with huawei.

It's the audio hardware and codecs that I want and for audio to pass through the 820 chip and be decoded by HTC's DAC. And, based on what you're saying the HTC Nexus may not get the best of both worlds. I want Nexus camera and software and HTC build and audio codecs. I'd pay premium prices for that. The HTC 10 has damn near audiophile music reproduction through the headphones. Once you listen you don't want to go back. Either way, I'm getting the next Nexus and a 5.5” screen sounds perfect after having used the 5.2”screen on the 10.

I had the HTC 10 for a short while and agree the audio is nice...but I use Bluetooth everything so it matters less to me.

I guess we will have to wait and find out in a few months

I realize the audio codec is used for wired headphones and not Bluetooth but does Bluetooth sound any better on the HTC 10 in comparison to other devices such as the Nexus 6P?

No, it just sounds different.

Bass and highs are emphasized, while the midrange sounds are drowned out a bit. Similar sound could be achieve with a equalizer.

I noticed that the Bluetooth signal would clip out a lot with my jaybird x2s, while running. This didn't happen with my s7 edge, and doesn't happen with my 6p.

My Bluetooth clipped out on my 6P while mowing the lawn while using Motorola S305 but not when I sit still. Haven't tried it again yet though.

I may get a pair of Jaybirds though. My Motorola headset is so old the earpad fell off lol.

Kinda not true. You can't equalize distortion and get less distortion or better sound. The HTC 10 absolutely creates a better soundstage than the Nexus 6p through Bluetooth. When I'm listening to songs with heavier bass, I find that the 6p will sacrifice the midrange to produce the lower notes and it's easily identifiable with the 6p. The HTC 10 doesn't have nearly the drop off in the midrange to produce those lower notes. Also, the 6p absolutely distorts lower bass tones that the HTC just plays right through. The sound reproduction through Bluetooth is the whole reason I'm holding onto this HTC 10. I'm hoping the update comes to T-Mobile soon so that I can let go of my 6p as my main camera phone. Also, the music plays much louder through the 10 which means that its internal amps have plenty more headroom than the 6p to get to the same volume levels, which means you can play your music at much higher volumes without the clipping or distortion that you will get from the 6p.

Uh, you're killing me Smalls! :p

I love my Nexus. However, since I cancelled SiriusXM in favor of Google Play All Access, I want Bluetooth to sound the best. I found a decent setup with the Equalizer that sounds good in my 2012 Acura TSX with the ELS sound system. However, I still feel like some songs with pitches in certain ranges sound a bit tinny. Music means way more to me than a camera but ditching the Nexus software with its quick updates is tough for me to do.

I just want the best of both worlds. :/

Internal amp and Bluetooth? The volume is dependent on the headphones and the software (aka if you turn it down via the phone).

To each his/her own. I don't notice the difference. The HTC may have a bit better fidelity, but not enough to really matter. I can match the sound stage on either using a equalizer. Now the headphones jack....different story.

The signal constantly fades out on the HTC during my runs. Not on the 6p.

This is all personal experience and anecdotal. Beyond stating our experoences, no reason to argue.

You love the HTC 10, it's a great phone, no argument here.

Lol! That's the thing, I love my Nexus and I love the HTC 10 audio reproduction. I'd drop the HTC in a heartbeat if it could play music like HTC. I like the build of the HTC, but don't consider that much better thank my 9 month old 6p. I'm just stuck. I'll never leave Nexus for any other OEM unless they really put out a piece of garbage. I mean here I am waiting on an update through T-Mobile for camera modifications on the HTC 10. I don't miss that at all.

Yes it does sound tinmy through the Nexus 6p at times. And, I will listen to my HTC through my girlfriend's car audio to see if I can tell you that the difference is real. Check back in a day.
