Terrible battery life on my G3

My battery life is 67% after 17hrs and 14% usage in 3hrs is that good.

Also 35hrs remaining

You really didn't give enough information to go on. What's your screen on time? What apps have you been using? These phones will last nearly forever in standby mode.

Today I went to a friend who works in a mobile shop and he managed to give me a spare battery, which i just swapped with my current one. I am really eager to see what will happen and if the result will be any different than what i am now getting in terms of battery life.

Do you really think that having the screen on for 3 hours doing web surfing and then needing to charge it again is acceptable? Because i dont.

I'm having a hard time believing the '3' hours thing....but if it's true, then either get another phone, or figure out what's draining it. If you're so worried about being out somewhere and it being dead, and you do like the LG G3, then I would say get an extra battery and keep both charged.

With regards to not comparing the phone to anything else, what are you talking about? Its a mobile phone to use as a phone for calls and messaging, internet, email, music, movies, satnav, just like any other smart phone. Just because it has a QHD screen doesnt make it a different device. Its a smart phone, in the market place along side its competitors.

Ok, so should two televisions perform the same way, if they are capable of the same functions, but have different screens and different processors?

LG, 1080p Smart, 55"- power consumption-81 kilowatt hours
LG, Smart 4K-55"- power consumption-171 killowatt hours

And really, I should have tried to find a 60" LG, since the screen is bigger on the G3. But, as you can see, the difference in the power consumed is doubled, and then some.....

And I am not a sheep. Never have been. If your products suck, I will say so. Likewise, if I feel there are reasons to defend, I will.

Here, I did the legwork for you;

Hi Lynne22

Thanks for the links to additional batteries and chargers. I have purchased an Anker external battery which should allow me to juice up when required.

I like the G3 and took my time over deciding which phone to buy next. The superb camera with laser auto focus was the clincher for me. The camera quality on the Nexus 4 was quite poor and it had real trouble focussing in low light. The G3 is superb in this respect.

Im glad your experiencing good battery life with your G3. Is it running Lollipop? and out of interest is yours a 16GB or 32GB variant?

Yesterday i took my phone off of charge at 9am. By 2pm it was down to 40% battery remaining. Sceen on time had been 1hr 37mins. I had been doing some web surfing, taken 2 pictures and sent a couple of emails. I then attempted to watch a movie but after 1hr 20mins the phone died. Screen brightness had been set to auto. Because i had hard reset the G3 friday night there are no other apps (other than pre-installed) that i can see are draining the battery. I was looking at installing some apps that might show detailed battery usage/wake locks etc, but apparently after Kit Kat none of them work any more unless the device is rooted? I will put GSAM on though and see if that gives me anything.

My friend, I have exactly the same problem... I really hope someone have a solution or a future update will fix this. I even swapped the battery with another one and the end result is the same..

I too expressed my displeasure with my G3's battery life. It took 3 Factory Resets, turning off the 'restore' and then finally, that incremental update gave me some life back (I don't know what was changed, as it was primarily for Verizon's Enhanced Calling Feature). But I am happier. Not ecstatic....Lol. If I have the screen on (at 30%), playing just Wordfeud, it tanks!

5.0 is just too erratic for me to update now. Some people have better battery life, some the same, and others are getting terrible battery life. Honestly, kitkat is working great for me, and I get great battery life. I have turned off automatic update, and am going to wait. I may never update during the life of the contract, as I have everything I need right now on the current os.

By reducing the brightness of screen and un-installing the unnecessary apps from your G3 will definitely improve the battery performance.

Hi Sigma

Im a stock Lollipop user with no additional apps. Are there any LG/pre-installed apps you suggest i remove? Ive tried to remove Mcafee that came with the phone but it wont budge!

Thanks

Well, I don't really know what else to tell anyone, except my results;

Today;

checked/sent email every hour in addition to-set for 10 minute refreshes
used the hotspot for 30 minutes to browse websites on my ipad
took 10 pictures
talked to a friend for 40 minutes
looked up some stuff on Google
used the gallery for about an hour viewing/editing pictures
played the LG HD video for a coworker
checked gas prices
watched 2 music videos on youtube
updated a spreadsheet for about an hour

Oh, and my screen is set at 50%. I did not use the phone much in the later part of the day though. That's just slightly under a normal usage day for me, but I was busy at work.

Think that's it, but I am probably forgetting a few things, since it's mostly second nature, and I wasn't really planning on 'watching' the performance. I don't come home every day with 68%, but it's generally not below 50%. I will say that I have a lot of things disabled. Mostly bloatware or things I will never need. So people might want to check that. I disable things even if they do not show in the 'running'. I would also like to add, that I have not restarted this phone in probably 5 days. Not sure if that matters or not. But the battery in the past few days is very quick to charge. Faster than the first few days I had it.

Credit where credit is due, during the week i dont need to use the phone very much and i have found the standby life of the battery to be amazing.

I havent used it for video or gaming, and yesterday it was in flight mode for 7 hours, but apart from that wifi, data, and location are on, with screen set to auto (slider in the middle).

Still really think that 4 hours SOT is nowhere near enough (whats the point in putting that beautiful screen in, and then not letting us enjoy it without being plugged in all the time), but hopefully that might be resolved to an extent in another update, though i do understand that the QHD is thirsty.

On a slightly different note, what does the "C" in the brightness icon stand for? (is it contrast?)

Thanks

A review I read yesterday Noted that the G3's battery life was a bit disappointing, possibly because of managing all those pixels.

I charge my g3 every night, and unplug it in the morning around 7. If i dont plug it in before 3 it'll be dead. I am a heavy user, but still, just sending messages via kik messenger and reading up on some stuff online shouldn't be draining the battery that much to be dead by 3 should it? Would factory resetting help? Running 4.4.2

No its not that ! There so many evidence on internet about great battery life on some devices. I am more than sure that this battery is capable of much more. Although, It seems like i cant find a solution to the problem.

The g3 simply drains the battery like crazy. I have a s5 and a note 4. Wanted to change the s5 with the g3. After reading about SOT on the g3 and talking to some users I changed my plans. I cannot go from 8 hours of SOT on the note 4 or 6 hours of SOT on the s5 to this.

It is a shame they rushed the phone because it is a beauty.

Do you think it's possible that the battery life could be improved in future updates resulting in longer SOT?

My G3 always got +- 3 hours SOT with mix activity, but when only watching video (movies) it can boost to 6 hours SOT, no root all stock 5.0. Strange.
