I have searched for the answer to my question with no luck so here goes.
When I use the USB cable that came with N7 the icon shows up on my PC screen. If I click on the icon the PC I think is searching but finds nothing.
I saw where I was to turn something on in the N7 which I did not find. I went to wireless & Network but did not find anything so i clicked on MORE.
This brought up the airplane, VPN, NFC AND Android beam. How to I get the N7 to work with my PC so I can transfer some spreadsheets from
my PC to the N7. Thanks for any help with this.

if all you want to do is copy files, plug the N7 into the PC, then go to my computer. It'll show up in the drive list under "media devices"

i can see the nexus 7 icon on my computer. That is not the problem. When I click on the icon it looks like the computer is searching for something.
The problem is it can not find what it is looking for so what do i do so the computer connect with the nexus 7? Is there something I have to change
in the nexus 7? Thanks again

is the device unlocked when you're doing this? (i.e. sitting on the home screen, not on a lock/password screen)

I am on the home page.
How would I transfer a spreadsheet to nexus ?
Would I use copy and paste?

What are you referring to you when you say "home page?" If you have your Nexus 7 folder open on your computer, yes, you should be able to use copy and paste to move files over to the device.

If you're still having trouble connecting the Nexus 7 to the computer, go into the Settings menu. Select "Storage," then the menu button in the top-right corner (three small squares), then "USB Computer Connection," and finally ensure that "Media device (MTP)" is checked.
