Thinking about getting a Thunderbolt. I currently have a Sprint Palm Pre which I can connect to my Linux laptop with mytether. Is the hotspot on the Thunderbolt just a standard WIFI hotspot that will work with anything, or is there some sort of Windows only authentication app that's required? The same question for tethering.

I use my WiFi hotspot with my laptop running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. I have yet to encounter any problems so far. My laptop connects to it as if it was a physical wireless router. The 4G speeds are FTW!

The WiFi will work with anything. It's a standard hotspot. But don't try to use any software that treats the TBolt as a modem using a dial-up connection. It has no modem drivers. Even for Bluetooth or USB in Windows.
