Text going out to wrong person

And in my case it has no bearing on how many texts I have.. On my first Tbolt I had a ton of messages; on the replacement I had maybe 2 or 3. Happened with both, and started only after the update. Using the stock SMS application.

I've had this happening as well. Very frustrating . . . maybe it is root time.

There are some reports of this happening on rooted phones as well...

anyone out the know how to solve this one?

I have been using Go SMS Pro lately and I have not seen this issue yet with the new app. I know others have had the text go to the wrong person even using this app, but it has helped me so far.

I have had this happen once in a while. I've also noticed that when I tap on one text conversation to open it, another one sometimes appears from another recipient/sender; this happens once every one or two days. I had assumed this was because a task killer was automatically killing the Messages and Contacts services when they weren't in use, but now I'm not so sure.

BTW, mine's rooted, so I don't think that's the fix.

I consider this a huge deal. I know Android Central touched on this bug, but I saw nothing at all on it at my other favorite site-Android Life . I really can't believe Android/Google has let it go this far.

I had this issue pre-OTA update, not after the firmware update had been pushed (I rejected the OTA update, multiple times), so I don't think it can be blamed specifically on the update.

Yes, happens to me all the time. It's very random and very frustrating.

However, until I read this thread I thought it was me hitting the wrong person in my message list to send the text to. Now I know it isn't me!

I don't think the OTA had anything to do with this bug directly..... It's been a know Froyo issue.... The only reason I've started seeing it is due to my up time now. I think its possible the reboot issue concealed it. I'm not sure how long it takes until cache gets out of control, but during the time I had the rebooting issue the longest I would go between reboots was around 36 hours... I don't think that is the magic number. I just don't know how much higher it is, or if the number of texts changes when it happens. For example some one who only does 5-6 texts might be measured in weeks of up time.... While some one who sends more than 100 per day could see this issue in just a few days. This might explain why so many of us have had this issue at different points. It could take 1K in a day or 5 texts in 5 weeks.... its a moving target. That may be influenced by each of our behaviors making a clear cause condition and a clear cut fix hard to nail down.

I'm only responding to this because I saw it on tapatalk, and I haven't bothered to read the whole thread, but this is an Android problem not specific to the Thunderbolt. My EVO did the same thing. There is no fix, and it appears to be random. I switched over to Handcent a long time ago for my fix.

FWIW, for those trying to figure out what is causing this issue...I've been using Handcent since I bought the phone in March. I am not rooted and I've installed both updates from Verizon. I have not cleared out any text messages since March - so I'm sure I have probably 1000 or so with many different conversations with many different people always open. I have not experienced any texts going to the wrong person. But - I have not ever experienced any reboots, bad GPS locking or any of the other problems that some people have before or after the software updates.

The Funny thing is this just happened to me, I called Verizon and it is not on their known issues list.

Yea, I sent a message to this girl I'm seeing and my boss got it instead! Coincidentally, he mentioned something that sounded eerily similar to a conversation I had with this girl about 1-2 weeks prior and it made me wonder if he's been reading my private texts all along! I'm sure it was just a coincidence but still......that bothers me. :-!

Has been happening to me lately especially after the latest MR2.

Less than 150 messages per person and less than 10 MMS messages. You hit send a longer then normal delay and bam you are in someone elses conversation begging for forgiveness. Android, really?

Since the last update, sometime when I send a text out, it goes out to the wrong person. It just randomly picks someone one my phone and sends it to them instead of who I want it to be sent to. Please let me know if any of you have the same issue and if you know how to fix it. Thanks!

THANK GOD I'm not alone. I have to delete people so I do not make a mistake.... it is sooooooooooo annyoing.

There's an extremely easy fix, its called...download a new messaging program! Handcent works very well. This has been an Android problem for ages. I can't believe people are still complaining about it.

I'm sorry, I cannot agree. I had Handcent and now I have GoSMS Pro and both had/have the problem of messages going to the wrong person. It is so annoying I don't want to text anymore and when I do - I just cross my fingers and hope for the best. It always hits when your guard is down.

I have had this happen to me as well. It happened on Wed. I meant to send a text to one person and a different friend got it instead. Then I saw what had happened and had to send a "sorr not for you" text.

You are the first person I ha ever heard have the problem with any other programs. That's really odd. My point is everyone is still here complaining about the stock app when it has been a know problem for a long, long time

I had this happen for the first time yesterday. Fortunately, it wasn't as embarrassing as it could have been. Still, this is a pretty serious problem, even if it only happens once in awhile. I'm now afraid to send any txt messages.
