AC Question

Ever since my LG G5 updated last week I have had issues receiving text messages. I am getting some messages, but other messages are not being delivered to me? This is happening with several different contacts. It they are not all with the same provider. I have tried deleting threads & have restarted my phone several times. Any ideas?

Speaking for myself (not the OP) Rogers doesn't seem to have any idea. Standard stuff; reboot, battery pull, complete wipe. Really of no help. They simply read the appropriate page from the book.

Steve...

That's typically what the Level 1 tech support people will say. Can you try asking them to escalate to a higher level person?

Likely will but nice tiered up support requests on behalf of customers many times, and over. Some 10 years, I've yet to see tier two solve much.

I've got an LG G5 phone and I am with Rogers (in Canada). I've had a clear issue not receiving some text messages for the past 2 months since I updated my phone to 7.0 Nougat OS. I have done the factory reset, changed the SIM card and everything else under the sun with no success. I spoke to someone at Rogers today who seemd to know what they were talking about (after talking to several who did not know what they were talking about) and he said that there is a known issue with the LG G5, Rogers and the new updated 7.0 Android software. He said until the next update in wihch it should be fixed we are SOL.

Actually I seem to have a temporary work around. Just thru trial and error, I tried "pinning" the messaging app about 2 weeks ago and haven't missed a text since. It's an annoying solution but seems to work.

Sorry for the delayed response. Open messages app, click the screens button, square bottom right. You'll see the messages app has a little pin icon on it. Click that. Messages doesn't close after that even when you close all screens. I'm on Rogers and there was a bug update to 7.0 yesterday so hopefully they fixed it.

My problem is similar to what I had with my Galaxy S6 Edge running Android 6.0. Now the same problem is happening with my new Galaxy S8+ running Android 7.0. The problem is this:

When I travel internationally, I use local SIM cards. My calling is 2 way locally, and I do not want clients to have to call my US number. I turned off "assisted dialing" to prevent my phone from out-thinking me adding international dialing prefixes to my local numbers. All local numbers have been edited to the number only, not country code or international prefix (+). This prevents the phone from adding 011-886 and the number. I have already set the correct country "Taiwan".

Local SMS texts go back and forth without problems, however international texts are coming and going in separate threads. This was only an inconvenience, once I understood what was happening.

I got an MMS last night which I attempted to forward to another local phone. Nougat insisted on adding 011-886 in front of each number and caused the sending to fail. I even typed the local number in as the forward recepient. This did not fix the problem.

This is a problem in Nougat. The logic which allows calls and text to be made locally fails to be consistent for MMS and international texts.

This is Verizon Galaxy S8+ with a CHT SIM card, in operation in Taiwan.

The problem with not receiving text messages reliably on an LG phone running Android 7.0 Nougat is related to the text messaging app that LG created and loaded onto our phones as the default messaging app. I reported this issue to LG about a month ago after extensive testing and I've confirmed that many 3rd party messaging apps will work reliably. For instance and app like Textra will work reliably and offers much more functionality than the built in LG app.

I even went as far as to provided my testing details then send my phone in for warranty repair so that LG could have a closer look and work towards a resolution but all LG did was factory reset my phone and said that the phone worked fine. When I got it back I tested again and the issue remained. I firmly believe LG has no idea how to resolve this software issue and is ignoring it at this point and basically screwing their customers over. Luckily the solution is to ditch the LG messaging app and use any 3rd party messaging app instead.....but I would encourage anyone having this issue to hold LG to task and report it to them as this issue is a direct result of a poorly written application they created.

This is my first LG and it will be my last....never again!

As a developer in CallApp application we are showing an SMS incoming overlay once received.

In the last months we've encountered with many users that says the following:

"SMS Is received but we can't see it in the native SMS application"

They know that the SMS received as they saw out overlay. So we started to think how it can be? Out overlay works but the native doesn't.

It took us several weeks until yesterday I text with a friend and the issue reproduce in my device. The first thing we did is to FORCE STOP the native SMS application and send an SMS
to the device. ISSUE REPRODUCED!
A severe bug in the native SMS application.

Some extra info:
Device Nexus 5x android Oreo.
(Happens to lot's of users no matter the version and manufacturer).
