Text messages from contact deleted from phone still show up under previous name

[Android Central Question]

I deleted from my Samsung Galaxy S6 the contact of a former colleague and reentered the new contact using the same phone number. On my phone the text and incoming phone calls are correctly identified as coming from the new contact, but on my watch the text messages still have the name of the prior contact...any suggestions?
