text msg alert for each contact?

I am about to purchase this Droid Razr M phone and need to know if I can set a different text sound/alert(not just a ringtone) to each contact? I use to have a Motorola flip style phone and it would work with it and just wondered if they still let you do this?

Not using the stock messaging app. You'll need an app like Handcent or GoSMS to do this.
