I'm going to be out of town and not have cell service but will have wi-fi. My girlfriend doesn't have a smartphone and can't download a messaging app. Is there a way to text using my actual cellphone # like imessage? Have heard google voice is nice but never really looked into it. Any suggestions?

Try Talkatone, if you have a Google Voice telephone number. Makes and receives free voice calls, and makes and receives free texts using your Google Voice number.

Myself...I use google voice when I want to text using my Nexus 7 on wifi.....works great for me!

thanks yeah starting to look like my best bet is just getting a new # with google voice and having her add that to her address book as well. Thanks for the help

I usually forward my Verizon number to my Google Voice number, when I'm going to be in a WiFi only zone.

If you are on Sprint, Google Voice will allow you to use your normal Sprint phone number. It works very well.
