Hi everyone,

The thunderbolt is my first android...and I am still getting used to it. Yesterday all of my texts disappeared and I have NO clue why! I didn't do anything different with the phone. One minute all of my texts were there from the last few days, and the next minute they were all gone. Has anyone experienced this or does anyone know why on earth this would have happened??

Thanks!!!

Never experienced this. Honestly sounds like you may have done something by accident or not remember it. Otherwise I'd say it is just a one in a million glitch.

Yeah it sounds to me like a small glitch. What text app do you use? the default? I'm curious as to if you had another one and the texts disappeared from both.

Another suggestion is to start using Google Voice. I know this won't solve the issue of the texts that disappeared, but it will solve it in the future. Setting up and implementing Google Voice may seem like a pain at first, but trust me it's worth it. The reason I'm recommending it is because all of the texts on GV are stored in the cloud on Google's servers, so even if you wipe your phone without a backup, your texts will be accessible from anywhere with an internet connection at Google.com/Voice. I can't recommend GV enough.

I already use google voice. And yes, I use the text app that came with the phone. Didn't know I could use anything else. I literally didn't do anything to the phone other than unlock it between when the texts were there, and when the texts were no longer there! It's not the end of the world by any means, I just don't understand how the heck it happened.

Could someone have used the phone?

If we can rule that out than I'd def say its some crazy glitch.

Happened quite often on my Incredible. Hasn't happened on my TB yet, though.

I have to agree with the others in saying that this sounds like a random, unfortunate glitch. I've been lucky enough not to experience it yet on my TB or Incredible, but when I had a BB and an iPhone before that it did happen a couple of times.

Random text deletion is a known issue with android and doesn't seem to be limited to a specific phone. Using a 3rd party messaging app like handcent seems to help. You can also use an app like sms backup & restore which will backup sms messages to your sd card and can easily be restored. Doesn't do mms though. I use an app called MyBackup Pro and it does mms along with a bunch of other things and can restore app data and market links for the rooted crowd. It's $4.99 so it isn't free but there are probably other apps that may do it for free.

I wish the text glitch would happen after some of my nights out haha

I've read about this with Android phones. Unfortunate that a fix hasn't ever been found. Happens with different devices, different messaging apps (including handcent). People that rely on their old texts for reference should back them up. People that lose all their important messages learn that real quick after losing them. Personally, I don't text anything that is really important anyway so I don't worry if they go bye bye. I won't lose any sleep over it. But I do think it is a horrendous flaw in android as a whole.
