The Coronavirus Maze-How are we navigating it today?

I have a GP appointment tomorrow, which I thought about cancelling due to COVID-19, since it was just a general checkup. I don't have to do anything, since my doc is going to call me, rather than see me in person. That's great to me, since the last place I want to be is around sick people.

Exactly. I was going to refill a prescription for a year last week and decided to opt for an emergency month's supply from my pharmacist instead. No way I'm going to a walkin clinic now.

Great idea. I have a well appointment in about a month and will see what occurs then.
I do think this event will change the ways we provide care and increase telehealth, etc.

Hahahahahahahahahahha

This silliness came in an email from Student Affairs. Since when does self-quarantine, should it ever be needed, deserve an official song?!

For what it may be worth, I am using Vick's First Defence nasal spray prophylactically. Whether it is of any value against this virus, I don't know, but for several years I have used it immediately after developing a cold, successfully. It creates an environment in the nasal cavity that is hostile to viruses, and stimulates the body's first defences - sneezing and streaming - to expel the invader, or the remains thereof. Used successfully, the cold does not develop fully.

The spray contains certain zinc compounds, which some medical experts deprecate in nasal sprays as possibly causing irreversible anosmia. I don't know how certain the connection is, and I believe, but don't know, that only a very small number of people may be susceptible.

They have said if you look at the area in Africa where they gave medicine to the people with Ebola.
Nobody has the Corona virus.
And some drug they used to make malaria shots also might work.
The University of Alabama Ho8 in B'ham sent some kind of drug to give people who are about to die.
To test it.
Trump said to remove all the old laws that ate still on the board with the FDA so they have more headway to find something to cure the new virus.

Wow - another reason for me to love Vick's! Thank you for sharing!

It certainly won’t hurt but it is used for colds, not something like the Coronavirus which infects your lungs and can cause death.
Sticking to basic hand hygiene and staying away from large crowds is the most prudent defense.

The main thing to remember is that, although you may only have a mild illness, it is easy to pass onto people likely to have a worse illness and even death. The isolating is to protect the vulnerable as much as protecting yourself. I am glad social places have been shut down in the UK. Sometimes if the public refuse to do things voluntarily then it has to be done for them. For the good of the many, not the few. Wash your hands, stay inside, stay safe...

You are right. I am refusing to visit my mom and brother to protect them. We talk through the door and video chat... But in case I end up being a carrier and am asymptomatic, I don't want to pass on a potentially deadly illness to them. We gotta do our part to stay in and stay safe - not just for our own protection, but our family's.

Puerto Rico has 100% lockdown except for groceries exercise or medical. If you get caught outdoors you willl be fined and/or arrested. People are heeding the warnings as streets are pretty much desolate

You can get fined and/or arrested? Wow! At least that means that most people will be taking the lockdown seriously.

My campus just BANNED student workers from working. Also, those without a legit reason will NOT be allowed to come back after spring break, and everything will be online. I don't have another home in the US aside from my dorm so I will be staying. But honestly, I am starting to wonder how effective this online stuff will be. I really prefer getting help with math, physics and the occasional electrical engineering question all in person. I am pretty sure most other students also work best with IRL help. Add to that the stress of the whole situation now and I honestly don't know how they expect us to do school work effectively under these conditions. I think I will just capitulate and say they should just grade our ungraded assignments ASAP, give us the chance to somehow get some extra credit on a class we are struggling in and have a grade we don't like (most of my grades are amazing aside from one low credit class, and others have the same issue), and shut class down until next semester.

At this point, I hate to say it, but you are on your own as far as learning. Online does present some difficulties but is doable. We have been moving that direction for a few years now. Take this opportunity to read all you can. Get in online chats with people in your curriculum. It’s about all you can do at this point. This is not the fault of education but a worldwide problem that is affecting everyone in some way. You are not alone and we have to help each other to get through this. You can do it!
