The Essential Phone - Yay or Nay?

What phone would you buy?

PH-1 without question, even if it's another month. Nothing about Google's phones excites me and the Pixel 2 leaks are lackluster. The white screens in Android O bother me enough that I'll stay on N until they correct their mistake. Dark theme or bust!

Only other consideration I've had is if we get an all-black BB KEYone here in the US and BB finally fixes their notification bug in the software. I miss my KEYone but don't miss the bugs. Essential came along at the right time.

Maybe we'll get 7.1.2 or the August security patch out of the box as a bonus for the delay.

I am likely out since I leave the country soon and want the Ocean Depths (green) model, which won't happen until later on. I guess I will sit back and watch what happens and then reassess next Summer.

There is a reason Andy chose the word "few" to describe the time line. Few does not mean 3 as people are hoping, it means indefinite, just like several. They took time word smithing to ensure they would not be held to another hard timeline like within the next 30 days. I am some what disappointed mainly because I am stuck using my old Droid Turbo. I am eyeing the Sony but not the US version lacking the fingerprint sensor. Waterproof, front firing speakers, etc...

Leaning towards keeping my S8 or even trying out the Z2 Force for the sheer fact of stock Android and the mods are pretty cool as well like the idea of attaching a 2200mah battery that's 4.9mm giving me 4900mah for under 10mm not too bad!

The original z force was my favorite phone I've had in years, very underrated. Very fast, love the moto stock look with the small features they add. Just seems like the z force 2 took a step backwards imo. I had several of the mods and they all work great. I'm a constant phone switcher, so the bad thing about getting the z force and the mods you are kinda forced to stay with that device. I loved the speaker mod, really do miss that.

I went to the Essentially website and was chatting with one of their support people (there is a chat function now). Sorry I don't have screenshots, but I asked if the lady I was chatting with had used the phone (she had). I then asked whether the phone is as stunning as it appears in pictures and the lady said "it's even better." Finally, I asked about battery life and the woman said that it lasts her a full day when on heavy use days and stands up well to the competition in that regard.

No, it will probably ship next week per the email. Free "2-3 day" shipping was included, which originally was stated to be "2-day". They might be sending via USPS Priority.

Not sure they will use USPS to be honest. The perks of using Fedex or UPS is they have an accurate tracking number. They can stop and recall the product back to the sender at any time. So if a safety issue were to arise they could recall the shipments. USPS doesn't allow that option.

Agreed on all points. The catch is the switch to saying "2-3 day" instead of "2-day" like before. Both FedEx and UPS offer guaranteed 2-day shipping to CONUS addresses. One would think they'd stick with "2-day" if using FedEx/UPS.

Tax looks like it's only being charged in California, so their FOB point must also be California. Thankfully I didn't have to pay tax.

I guess we'll find out next week. Hopefully they ship Mon/Tues.
