The fingerprint sensor has to be the most useless/counterproductive feature of the S7

I've had my S7 for about 2 weeks now and absolutely love it, but I find that the fingerprint sensor is completely useless. More than half the time it doesn't recognize my fingerprint. It works a little better when I wipe it clean before using it, but even that's not a guarantee it'll work (and it's far more troublesome than simply punching in a PIN). I don't even have particularly sweaty/greasy hands.

I've tried resetting the fingerprint and it still doesn't work much better.

I've decided to just give up on the fingerprint authentication and go back to using a PIN.

Does anyone else have this same frustration?

It does not work as well as my iPhone 6 Plus, but my S7E has never failed me. Works well on everything I use it for; unlocking screen, authenticating with apps, and purchases.

Make sure you rotate your thumb from side to side and lower and upper of your thumb, as well as the middle when programming the sensor.

Also, add another finger so multiple fingers can unlock device.

When I had my S6, that finger printer scanner had about 80% it would work successfullyrics when I unlock my phone, the S7E has unlocked it everytime.

The S7 fingerprint scanner is one of the best I've ever used, that and the G5.

My Mum has the S7 edge, she has pretty small fingers and struggles with the finger print. She found it frustrating and went for a pin as well. It will come in handy when we eventually get Android / Samsung Pay in the UK, but for now, she doesn't use it.

Did it take you a while setting up the fingerprint? I only ask as it took my Mum a long time to register just one finger.

I have the s6. And it works great 99% of the time. Only has gotten better with marshmallow.

I love it and with more apps taking advantage of it it is one of the best features of the phone.

+1

I initially didn't even set it up. After a week of using my device. I set it up ensuring to capture all parts of my finger accurately.

It never works from the first try. This has to be the worst finger print sensor on any device I've used. I quickly turned it off after a couple of hours.

I found that I was the one with the problem. I had to train myself to use it the way intended. One retraining and paying attention has allowed my to use it without fail.

It didn't take a long time to set up, but I do have small fingers. Maybe that's the problem...

works well here. having said that, my wife suddenly had issues getting her phone to recognize her prints, so I had her delete her stored prints and redo them. problem solved.

I would try re-registering your fingerprints. I had issues before with FP scanners and once I reset my fingerprints up it worked.

Its light years ahead of my old S5, mine works well 99% of the time, even sideways and upside down.

Mine works great. I registered my prints in different positions that I might be in (standing, laying down, etc) and I have never had a problem with it

crazy. I just tried it upside down and it works! (WITHOUT having first registered them upside down)

Mine works awesome. I've not had an issue. Maybe you're not scanning enough variety of your thumb when setting it up?

Mine works pretty well, but the worst part about it for me is that I wear rubber gloves most of the time at work, so I end up using the PIN more often than the fingerprint sensor. I have Smart Lock on for home and car but would rather not at work.

Works awesome for me. Fast and easy. Worlds better than on my S5. Could not be happier.

Mine wasn't the best either but I redid it and moved my thumb more and the 2nd time it worked perfectly...this ^^ :)
