'The Galaxy S5 has the best smartphone display ever'

It was not 5 minutes and not in a store but with my friend's friend.

We compared 4.3 update (N2 and S4 didn't have that update back then and Note II was still in 4.1.2 because Sammy skipped 4.2.x for Note 2)) , We checked out stylus differences of N2 and N3, software changes and screen quality , features/build quality etc.
We did spend significant time with it while comparing and a week later after my friend returned back to Note II , he was saying how awesome Note III display was under sunlight and said GS4/N2 is not as good.

I would expect them to make improvements from one generation to the next, so it's not surprising the Note 3 does better. That also doesn't make the S4 bad, just not as good.

I should have been clear , When I said competing LCDs , I meant HTC One , Nexus 5 etc. because that would be more fair comparison.

HTC One M7 would be fair since they were competing devices. DisplayMate didn't test the N5, so we would have to go somewhere else for those results.

AnandTech | Samsung Galaxy S 5 Review

It's a great display like I said it would probably be. I think they are still populating all of the graphs, though.

Last paragraph is the key:

I would say that AMOLED is finally equal, if not slightly better than LCD. With a few more iterations, I wouldn’t be surprised if I were to write that AMOLED is clearly superior to LCD. Of course, there are some issues such as a noticeable green tint to the display in grayscale and Samsung still needs to improve their clamping of gamut to sRGB for Cinema/Movie mode, but none of these issues seriously detract from the viewing experience.

Also of note is that the Nexus 5 is still the benchmark and has not been replaced by the M8 or S5.

My comment was meant more for the person I've been going back and forth with. I should have quoted them.

End of the day, though, my point is that the S5 has a great display, but it's not head and shoulders above the currently existing displays like other sources may have implied.

If the Nexus 5 is the benchmark than I must be blind. That screen is by far the most washed out looking screen I have ever laid eyes on. It may be accurate but I couldn't give less of a damn about that on a smartphone, if I want to compare colors accurately than I will use a professionally calibrated monitor.

Samsung nailed the screen on the S5, its vibrant and beautiful to look at with a great deal of brightness. Don't want the vibrancy, switch to Cinema mode and you get accurate colors instead. You can't do that on the Nexus 5 and are instead forced to suffer with that washed out display all the time.

Preference is preference. Accuracy is measurable.

And as I've said before, I know the S5 has a great display. Not trying to say anything otherwise.

I know what you mean, so now that some detailed reviews have come out on the S5, are you considering purchasing one to compliment your M8.
