The GB update makes my Evo feel like a new phone!

Getting ready to do my girlfriend's update. Wondering if it deletes all apps and data on the phone? Do I need to use MyBackupPro or something and be ready to replace all of her apps that she has installed now?

It didn't delete any of my apps even my pictures are still there. The only thing I lost was it cleared out all my browser stuff and saved passwords. It wouldn't hurt to back it up but if it's just stock I don't think it will.

Other then it showing i have 4 voice mails when I have none, phone is much smoother. Don't care about the voice mail issue seeing as though I will be sporting a evo 3d in a few weeks.

The only issue that bothered me was the high display utilization of the battery but a day later, that auto corrected itself. I don't use Netflix or access Exchange email and the WiFi no longer supporting N doesn't affect me either. No force reboots. No problems with Sense. I love the update and yes, it's like the EVO is a new phone with better battery life. Loving GB.

No issues here, loving the ability to leave the gps on and the phone will turn it on and off as necessary. Depending on the app it will stay on for 3 sec to get a fix or longer enough to navigate,etc...no need to turn off or worry about battery life. I'm also getting the 3D and passing the 4g to my son.

I agree that while it is subtle in nature it is noticeable. The various changes in the fonts, the apparent improvement in colors and contrast, improved battery performance, increased space on the internal storage are all great. I am also loving the new shut down where I can now go from being shut down to restart in 3 seconds. If GB is this good on the 4G I can hardly wait to see what it will look and act like with the 3D. Hopefully they will have an update soon to clear up the voice mail notifications issue.

:( You guys are all eating gingerbread while I am still licking the spoon clean of Froyo

partly because my signal isn't so good right now, which may explain why it's taking my phone forever to update

Are any of you guys that just mentioned they are going to the Evo 3d also visiting the Evo 3d forums? Can't remember seeing you dudes over there, unless you're just lurking....

My suggestion to those who are having problems is to back up personal info and perform a hard reset.
Install apps from scratch and set them back up.
Then restore personal data.

As you mentioned, that's exactly what I did. I wasn't having any issues beforehand, but for the sake of starting fresh, I wiped my device and reinstalled everything I had. I am definitely loving this update. The only issues I have (the handcent LED, and the Xfinity TV app) will be solved with future updates. So no big deal at all. I've also seen an improvement in battery life, and everything does seem smoother and quicker for me.

hey has anyone's phone start up the old way on 2.3.3...all apps get loaded in the begining with a really sluggish feel? is it a bug? lol it just happened twice now. just restarted again and was fine... odd

Not sure if it's been mentioned but there is now an update that's live for Handcent to fix the Evo 2.3.3 bug. Unknown if it actually fixes it.

Yes...but I don't always comment.

I read 3D forums all the time, not sure if I ever posted, im sure I must have,, who cares anyway, lol. Quick mention,,, after the gb update i just noticed that my battery life has improved greatly. 3 percent an hour is all I lose with non use. Love that I can leave gps on now and it only comes on when needed. Just noticed that somehow I responded to the wrong comment,,,,,, sorry.

To answer an earlier question. I have had zero problems. However, I always use a wireless connection only to do updates. Don't know if it matters but I am of the opinion that you get a better more relaible download and install.

LOVE the Gingerbread update. I updated on Friday and just updated my wife's a few minutes ago. Definately more pros than cons. I could do without Netflix for a while until they fix it. Battery on on my Evo with Froyo was horrible (6 to 8 hours) before recharging. I literally had to have a charger at home, one in the car, and one at work. With this GB update, I'm already on my 14th hour since I unplugged it this morning and it shows that I have 40% battery left (after the same use as on Froyo). My Evo performs alot faster now. Day one it was a little sluggish right after the install but after a few battery pulls and continuous use and it feels like a new phone. Lots of small new treats, nothing major but good improvements. I was really looking forward to the new Evo 3D this summer when my upgrade (Sprint Premier Gold) came up because my Evo on Froyo was so slow and the battery life sucked. But thanks to this update, now I'm not in such a hurry to jump on the Evo 3D bandwagon. I will wait a few weeks, maybe even months until the bugs are worked out on the first batch of 3D's before I get mine.
