The "Help! How do I..." Thread

OK, here is one where I am pretty sure I know the answer, but just for grins...

My app list is crowded with all sorts of junk that I'll never use, yet I don't seem to be able to delete the trash. Is there any less obvious way to decide I really don't want a blockbuster app loaded on my phone? Or did someone get paid extra to make us deal with it forever?

The easiest way is through root.

Another way is through an alternative launcher called Launcher Pro that gives you the ability to hide apps such as those.

But with the phone stock, you cannot achieve this because of greedy companies.

anyway to change the vibration pattern when a text or email is received? Right now its just two small vibrations.

Gmail, not that I know of...

Sms, download Handcent and you can customize the vibration pattern.

Alarm?

Very New to Android. Just got a Thunderbolt, had a storm 2. I used to be able to set an alarm on the storm, turn off the phone, then the alarm would work. I hear i cant do this with the TB. I have to leave the phone on or (sleep). Right?

Right. I had the same thought when I went from my Tour to my Dinc. Phone must be ON to have the alarm go off.

Also new to TB from storm 2. Is there any way to swipe or otherwise to minimize the keyboard? Sometimes I find when filling out stuff on the web I can't see what I'm typing because autoscroll has moved the form on the webpage. Aand sometimes he on screen minimize button isnt there. On my storm 2, I assigned the left hotkey to show / hide the keyboard to solve this small screen rendering dilemma but there is only a volume rocker on the TB.

With the stock keyboard, no since it has the drop keyboard button. But most 3rd party keyboards have this feature. Just swipe down on the keyboard and it will drop.

it is the stock sms

found the solution

clearing cache of the stock messaging app

menu>settings>applications>manage applications>running (or ALL)>messages>clear data

you'll be prompted/warned about deleting all files associated with it--hit OK/Enter/whatever

i just did it--my texts are still in the app

Hey guys I am in need of help. When I drive, I normally hook my phone up to a cable from the mp3 aux to the headphones jack in the thunderbolt. With my old phone (lg ally) I was able to hear the person speaking to me on the other line in the car speakers and was able to talk back to them. Now, I can only hear the person speaking and they do not hear me talking back. Is there an app or setting that I am missing? Please help!

No, you need a Mic to talk back. Sorry.

I'm coming from a Droid X to the Thunderbolt. I have a question....I have successfully sync my exchange calendar to my phone. But when I get a new meeting invite, I don't see the date/time in the email. I have to search for it in the calendar. I see the meeting invite email title and agenda but no date or time. I can't seem to find an option or any info about it online. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is there a way to set a customized ringtone to a "group". I thought I saw it earlier, but may have been mistaken (I just spent about an hour looking for it again and couldn't find it). My work around was to go to each individual contact in that group and assign the same ringtone to each one. Very tedious.

How do I get my "frequent" group in contacts to update? It currently is only showing 3 frequent contacts and I have both the "inbound" and "outbound" options checked for counting. I've contacted more than 3 people and the group is stuck on 3 people.

Thanks.

Can someone tell me where to find my downloads on the phone. I can see them right after I download them but afterwords I cannot find them on the phone. My facinate had a folder called "files" I could go in and find them. I can't see to find them on the TBolt. I had to plug into my computer to find them but I'm sure there is a place to find them on the phone itself.

I haven't found a way to assign a ringtone to an entire group in one step (if anyone else has, please jump in!) BUT you could save time by assigning it through the Music app. Open it up and scroll to the song you want, then tap menu -> more -> set as ringtone -> contact ringtone. Then you can check the names of everyone you want it assigned to before tapping "save".

Hi is there any way I can use the ringtones from my Droid X, specifically the Terminated ringtone, on my Thunderbolt? Thanks.

You'll need a file manager app - I recommend Astro.
