The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

Chock one more with the issue, after nine months, day one when it was available. Phone died just like everyone described. Mine locked up while using it and then stayed on the boot screen. I put it in the fridge for 10 minutes and it would boot for about 1 minute but not fully boot. It is still in warranty so when the exchange arrives, its time for the V10.

Is there a way of permanently fixing this yet? I read online through AndroidAuthority that LG released a statement finally acknowledging that this is indeed a MASSIVE hardware defect. Is there a way of having a current one going through this repaired or have they released new models that are guaranteed not to have this problem?

EDIT: So now that I've read through most of the thread is there anyone that has had a serial number after like 507/508 bootloop? Mine is a 507 and bootlooped Saturday. I'm going to be calling Verizon tomorrow to ask if they can send me one from the 6XX line if possible but I want to know if those have had issues before trying for that or maybe pushing for a swap to the Note 5 or something.

Progress report on my 505 twice repaired by LG:

Since its arrival on Thursday and after setting mostly everything to my liking, the phone is still performing as it should. MM on my phone is pretty fast and fluid I must say. Battery life has been more or less as before; I am using the same battery as before, even though I have a new one in storage.

The phone sometimes gets a bit warmer than usual, and I'd like some feedback on other user's phone temperature to see if mine is doing ok in this.

I'm on a referb from T-Mobile, didn't go the LG repair route. The only warming I get is when using Google Maps. That's about it. My battery life on MM however, that's taken a bit of a dive. I took a couple of weeks off of work, my first day back was today. My first day back with MM. Using ear buds for music/podcast for about 4-5 hours I would come away with about 60-65% battery life after 8 hours. Now I come home under 50%. Otherwise, my G4 is performing better than it ever has.

So, further testing today suggests that something with Bluetooth is not working 100% correctly. I get cuts in audio while listening to music in my car radio, through my BlackBerry Music Gateway, and with my Plantronics headphones. It's happening with Pandora and Google Play Music so far. Bluetooth stack issues? Android 6 being naughty? No idea at the moment. It worked perfect while it had Lollipop though.

I'm trying disabling Google Now voice detection from any screen in Google Now settings, which at the moment seems to help.

Are any users with repaired/ replaced units with Android 6 having this issue?

I think they generally repair the phone you send them. That's what I was told by chat support before I sent my G4 in.

I'm seriously contemplating flashing a custom ROM on my phone once LG decides to open bootloader unlocking to all other H815s other than the EU ones.

If you purchased your (new) LG G4 less than 12 months ago, it is still under warranty and LG will fix (or replace, if necessary) for free. You will need to remove the back cover, the battery, the SD card (if you have one), and the SIM card before sending to LG. Contact LG support (online or via phone) to get an RA number and shipping label. You'll also need to show proof of purchase. I live in the US and it was a quick 5-day turnaround for me (including shipping time -- shipped Monday, received back on Saturday -- the factory repair time was less than one day). My phone "died" after 6 months of use with no issues. It failed to boot up and repeatedly displayed the LG splash screen and occasionally displayed a message about updating apps. I couldn't even get it to do a factory reset. Seems to be working fine now. I hope it lasts at least 18 more months (contract expiration with Sprint).

So, now I can't even get back in using the freezer method. Almost certain I got the important stuff but want to make sure there weren't any pics or other things I missed. Has anyone had any luck getting LG to give them a different phone (like the V10) as a replacement instead of another G4? And if only G4, what about demanding a new one with newer serial # in the 6xxxx range? If so on either, what did you say?

And is it better to try through Verizon or LG?

So, any more feedback from refurbs/ repaired units? Mine's still working as it should, except for the Bluetooth audio streaming issue noted in a previous post. I now believe it's Android/ carrier related. Using corded headphones gives no gaps or pauses in audio.

It would suck to get a refurb serial # 505-509 but chances are it won't get the bootloop issue. At least until warranty expires.

Indeed. But I know of no way to actually ask LG for a different or specific serial # unit if a replacement is offered.

I've found that my 507 replacement is not always going into quick charging mode in my car (my original one ALWAYS quick charged with the same charger). In fact, it often LOSES power while charging. I've called Sprint, and of course I have to take it to the repair center. I may try for a replacement just to hope I can get a newer build. I'm not sure this one ever got repaired. What if it was turned in for some other reason? They have no incentive to repair it if the problem hasn't shown up.

My S/N 512 G4 kinda overheated recently. It got too hot and I can't even hold it for more than a minute, even with a case.

It was only on Wi-Fi and screen brightness was only at about 28%. Wasn't even gaming on it. Just browsing Facebook on Metal and the AC Forums.

I'm taking it to my retailer tomorrow to see if I can get it sorted. Hope I can get a European H815, because I really want to unlock the bootloader on this thing, something that LG, for some weird reason, only does for the EU H815s, although T-Mobile's G4 (H811) already has an unlocked bootloader.

More testing on my repaired unit. As before, I cannot connect to LG Bridge. I reinstalled the drivers, the phone has Marshmallow now, and Win10 is updated as of the latest available MSFT patches. Otherwise, still going strong.

if anyone uses LG Bridge, please let me know how it goes with it after repairs or replacement.

My replacement S/N 807 G4 was having trouble quick charging from my car. I'd never had that problem with my previous one, so I took it into Sprint today. While they couldn't replace the phone due to that, they did notice the phone was overheating (I had only been trying to charge it in the car on the way to the shore), so they've ordered me another replacement. Here's hoping I get a newer version of the phone.

I got back from my retailer, and have some bad news.

I can't get it replaced, because they didn't have the EUR model in stock and they allow only one warranty replacement unless exceptions can be made.

I also saw a stack of phones that were going to be sent off for repairs. Nearly all of them were LG G4s.

My confidence in the phone is already diminished. Gonna be ordering a Galaxy S7 Edge soon or waiting for the Note 6.

I really liked this phone when I first got it. Unfortunately, it's been a series of issues 6 months after.....
