The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

If they keep it like this, they risk to go the same path as Sony is going. Which is really sad since both companies can produce great products (specially Sony. Their Compact line is amazing...apart from the completely rubbish cameras).
The XPERIA Z-line seems to have been silently killed off in favor of the X Performance.

I don't understand Sony's strategy sometimes. The Compact was practically the best small Android phone you could buy. Because it was the ONLY small Android phone with flagship specs, especially at the time.

Has anyone had any success convincing their carrier to eg replace it with a V 10 or something? "Getting tired of having to deal with ticking time bomb number four.. Especially with the one year warranty expiring soon.

As I mentioned several months back, my importer doesn't allow me to switch to a completely different phone as a replacement without paying half of the phone's price.

And since this phone is giving off multiple issues, I'll have better luck boxing it up and selling it online.

That's pretty much the offer that I got from my US carrier - BUT I was also having the MM related battery issues (now pretty much resolved). The amount was in the ballpark of the going rate for my G4 on Swappa, so no great help.

And the Compact line was Sonys' best selling phone. Honestly I don't know what on earth is Sony doing and considering the X Performance (which is basically the Z5+/Z6) isn't apparently coming to Europe, I'm not yet jumping on the bandwagon of the "the Z line is dead". Because is they kill an entire line for those poor, overpriced excuses of a phone, then they deserve to completely sink.
We'll have to wait for IFA to see what happens.

And it would be hilariously painful if Sony decided to kill off the Compact line in the precise year that Apple actually validates the existence of the Compact line with what I call the "6S Compact". I would be the biggest shot in the foot yet for them.

I hope a Z6 or Z7 comes out at IFA with a Compact comeback. If not, then Sony is dead to me. Especially since the smaller iPhone SE is now a thing.

I'm typing this on my old One M7 running stock Android Lollipop that's modified and it's kinda refreshing to go back to a smaller phone. Which is funny, because I'm about to go to a gigantic one.

Minor update, I've noticed that now screenshots are taken and processed faster. Should be Marshmallow goodness. Otherwise, phone is still working as it should. It does get a bit hot sometimes, but not scalding hot.

"Connection problem or invalid MMI code"
Goddammit

Only thing I can say at this point was that it got pretty hot to the point where the screen itself was hot. Not a surprise on most phones I've used, but on this one, it's actually hot to the point where touching it is uncomfortable.
Just had my phone get incredibly hot while in my pocket, too. Not a good sign...

Was the display pretty hot to the touch?

If I were you, I'd start making preparations for the worst. Since it's reported that the issue is caused by a failed soldering point, I'm assuming that heat would be one primary contributing factor in the failure.

My 505 unit did the same thing before it died. Something is definitely fishy about this.

Yes, both the display and the back of the phone were extremely hot to the touch. I was wearing a pair of jeans, and had the phone in my pocket. First time I've ever noticed such a dramatic increase in temperature. CPU-Z showed a temperature of 128°. . Most of the time it reads somewhere in the mid 80s.

I've already done another LG backup. Wondering if I should go ahead and report this to Sprint, and prepare for yet another replacement?

Was that battery temperature? Because that is extremely worrying if it's true.

Given how hot it got, you might wanna ask Sprint if it's possible to get another replacement.

If you can't, just run it like you stole it until it dies, though I think you should baby it a little until the HTC 10 and other phones come out.

It was battery temperature. I'm going to give Sprint a call this afternoon. At this point I'm not sure I'll go back with another G4. I've just lost confidence in it. Maybe I'll see if they have any HTC One M9 as a replacement. Need to make sure it has spot for microSD card, so the S6 isn't an option.

If you're gonna go with the M9, make sure it's a good one.

My friend had one and it also heated up to over 120 degrees on the battery. The phone didn't perform well after that. He replaced it with the S6 Edge+ soon after.

It won't happen to all M9s out there. Just make sure you don't get a dud.

Honestly, after so many issues with the G4, I don't think I'll go back to one. It was a great phone when it works. Unfortunately, when it doesn't, it's a bit of a mess.

How would I know it's a good one? Is it based on serial number as well?

Based on luck. :/

It's not S/N specific. My friend may have got a dud. Either that or his phone ran too hot out of the blue.

Most of them are good units, though. You should have no issues with one. Just a heads up.

Thanks for the tip, as always,

No problem. ;)

Oh, and another heads up. You might have to do some tweaking in the camera app to get the phone to take better photos. It doesn't exactly shoot great photos in Auto mode, but do some tweaking and it does take photos quite nicely. Not on the same level as the G4 (IMO), but the camera itself isn't too bad. It's decent.

If I can get one from Sprint, I may go on that direction. I previously had the M7 and M8, and was mostly satisfied with them.

I've about sworn off the M series. After the bad port issue on the M8's, I've realized having a metal body phone without a removable battery is a deal breaker. Once that port goes bad, it's nothing more than a fancy paper weight.

My LG G4 suffered the "boot loop" death on Good Friday, unfortunately it did not resurrect itself on Easter Monday.
I purchased two of these phones, unlocked, direct from Amazon in July 2015, one for me and one for my wife. Both have serial numbers starting 505.
The wife's phone is still functioning normally. We are in the UK.
After some challenges getting a response from LG they eventually sent out a courier to collect my phone on the 1st of April.
I have just come off a Web chat with LG support where I was told the phone had the motherboard replaced under warranty on the 8th April and I will have to wait up to another 14 days for the phone to be sent back to me.
I surprised LG did not simply replace the phone, as this would have been much quicker, led to a satisfied customer and you might think be cheaper for LG.
I am now awaiting the wife's phone to suffer the same fault. With less than 3 months left of the warranty I will be especially annoyed if her phone fails after the purchase anniversary.
Off to buy a Moto G (2015) now as a back-up phone..
