The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

Mine bricked today, S/N 506. Luckily I bought my phone 363 days ago so I still had 2 days left on my warranty. I went into At&t today and they told me it is a known issue with the G4 and Andriod Marshmallow but from what I can see this issue goes way back before marshmallow.... They did a call in warranty and I have to wait 2 days to get my replacement... I have honestly always favored LG phones over other phones but because of the length of this issue and LG obviously screwing people over I think I am done with them. Samsung S7 here I come!!!

Welp, add me to the expensive glass brick group. Went a roadtrip and travelled a couple hours to Boston, as soon as I pulled off the bridge into downtown it died on me. Very irritating to lose all the ability to sight see and take pictures. Hiked over to the bestbuy and bought a prepaid phone to keep connected but what a waste of money.

Of course my warranty ended 33 days ago.

Well, here's hoping LG does the right thing and offers to repair for you. Fingers crossed...

I just wanted to let you know that the motherboard issues on LG G4 extend to 512 models. I got mine 4 months ago, after 2 month it died. They've tried to fix it, find another (used) motherboard and gave up, so they'll give me another phone or my money back. That's the policy of the store I bought my phone at.
I'm very sad to give up on G4, it was an excellent phone. I just don't want to go through this again. I want a reliable phone. So, I'm going with S6, because I can't afford newer models. :(

Don't take no for an answer if the phone is out of warranty. This is a unique situation. Likely you have more leverage with your carrier. But LG has a better track record for repairing G4's.

More info about my phone Verizon.. S/N 505kpxxxx It will randomly boot and show the logo and vibrate for an excessive time but never fully boot.

Going to Verizon tonight

You want to know what they told me?? I got my G4 from Android Central like you and LG told me that....get this.....they don't make the parts for my specific model, international H815. So what could I say after that? You think I should call them back and dispute their claim?

Yup. Keep trying LG until you get someone that will listen. That is ridiculous answer of course! BTW You may recall I sold my H815 and got a H811. My gf is using it now and no problems, but I have a square trade warranty on that. When did your G4 bootloop? I assume it is out of warranty for less than a month.

Yes, I remember you selling it!...smart move, lol!

It died on me last week. I was just reading a comic with my Comicat app and BAM it just shut down and restarted and never came back up. Not sure if its out of warranty but this whole thing has left me with big doubts about moving forward with LG and recommending them to family and friends. Looks like Samsung will soon be having my business again....or maybe I'll finally try out a Nexus, lol! :)

Sorry to hear that and keep us posted. LG is still responsible.

...my warranty ended 33 days ago.

I purchased a G4 in June, but just activated it July 10th. After using it for only three days, it started looping. The previous owner told me that he has owned it for over a year and never had any issues at all. So, I contacted LG. LG emailed me a pre-paid shipping label. I sent the phone to LG on the 14th. They fixed it and shipped it back to me on the 19th and I received it from LG on the 23rd. They fixed it at no cost to me. On the repair form I left the "purchase date" blank. My guess is that they're owning the problem and just fixing the phones.

My guess to what triggered it is that I spent about an hour installing and updating apps (and signing in to all related accounts, etc) and the constant use of the phone heated it up and caused the "issue" to occur. This is my theory because I just did the same thing with the newly fixed phone (spending an hour configuring the phone, running the battery down in the process, and heating up the phone). When I realized what I was doing, I turned the phone off and plugged it in to charge (with the phone off). I used the phone later in the day and no boot issue(s).

I did have Pandora and GPS playing on the whole 6 hour roadtrip and then immediately starting using Maps when I pulled into the hotel. It was sitting on my A/C vent where the holder is though. Maybe I should have taken the battery cover off or something to let it cool?

Filed a claim, the chat rep said this

LG Rep: Your phone has a one year limited warranty from the date of purchase or 15 months from the date of manufacture. This warranty does not cover physical, body, cosmetic or moisture damages to the unit.

No, I haven't tried calling them back. To be honest with you, the more I think about it the more I'm beginning to dislike the company. I'm currently using an Asus Zenphone 2 unlocked and its getting me by. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the upcoming Note 7 and new Nexus so as long as this phone holds me till then, I should be good.

Quick update on mine, At&t warrenty department sent me a new phone that I just got in the mail. The "new" phone is older than the one that died... Mine that died was a S/N 506 and they sent me a S/N 505.... So I am expecting this same problem to happen again... I went to the At&t store the same day that it died and just purchased the S7 Edge... This LG will just sit around collecting dust as a backup phone if my S7 ever bites the dust. Anyway, lesson learned, staying far away from LG phones from now on.

I would suggest going directly to LG and not through AT&T. LG is owning the problem and fixing phones (even out of warranty phones) at no cost.

Hi My phone , bricked today, (Stuck at the LG logo wont boot up then goes blank) just using it to switch apps SN # begins with 505 i bought it from a dealer locally (Jamaica) in January and now the local warranty has expired ive had it just over 6 months. Can anyone tell me how to get it to work or who to contact to have it fixed? HELP all my data is lost :(

Go to LG.com and hit support and use the chat support. Don't tell them when you bought it, the manufacturer warranty is 15 months. If you bought it through an authorized seller you get 12 months from that date.

They can see the info with the device IMEI id.

Also, unless you had the info on your SD card, LG Wipes the phone when they work on it. Some people said freezing the phone and quickly trying to get the data off while its cold might help. Be careful you don't get the moisture indicators wet.
