The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

This is why I dubbed the term "refurbish roulette." If it was sent in for warranty, they likely only fix the claimed problem and others may still exist. It could also have been a phone that was traded in within the 14 day trial period ended, so nothing was broken and nothing fixed before reselling it.

Doesn't seem to matter which brand either. I've had problems with refurbs across the board, not just LG.

And the big question ... in the US the warranty for phones is one year. Now the first batches of G4's are out of warranty. WIll LG offer extended support for bootloop problems? I should really start a new thread just on this question.

The factory warranty starts at date of purchase in the U.S. if you have proof of purchase. So many of the 505's could very well still be covered.

Good question on the extended support. I have Verizon's extended warranty, so it's not much of an issue for me, but something worth investigating.

Don't get refurbs... send it to LG to get fixed

To be frank, I really think LG should replace/repair phones that are affected by the bootloop even when they are out-of-warranty.

To me, it would be silly to charge money in order to repair a phone that's affected by a manufacturing defect.

On another note, I hope I'm not being paranoid, but some G5s seem to have struck an eeriely-similar bootloop defect. Hopefully, it's on far less units.

In June 2015, I decided to purchase the G4 over the S6 from Samsung, a 505 unit from VZ. This past January, it bootlooped. VZ sent me a like new replacement unit, another 505 unit. Well, that one has been working well until about three weeks ago, when it started to randomly been reboot and freeze up, which I suspect is a preemptive ode to a future boot loop . I decided against bringing it into VZ again and instead opted to go to LG for support. I have sent it in(on 6/8) and it will be returning back to me tomorrow. The repair notes indicate:
Defect: Power-No power with cable
Repair Results: Swap Board (Main/RF) : Others
I am finished with this phone if it stills acts up and will definitely be getting an S7 instead if that is the case. I have wasted too much time with these issues.

So I guess we'll start seeing the G5 brick thread sometime in the foreseeable future.

Can't wait for October. I'll be getting myself a new Nexus.

I'm still hoping that this is much more isolated than on the G4, but so far, it's pretty bleak for LG.

Fingers crossed. It would be a shame if this became widespread like our G4's. I really love the G5.

I've decided to pick up a Nexus this fall anyway. I've skipped the past couple of years. I wanna get back.

Add another Boot Loop G4 phone to the mix. The problem occurred mid phone call out of the blue. My G4 is from serial number batch 508. LG repaired it (June 2016) at their expense with "replaced Flash Memory". I fear the boot loop will reappear down the line but for now, I'm back with my G4.

I'm really pissed off. Here is my story in a nutshell. I bought a brand new LG G4 in August of 2015 here in orange County California from T mobile which has been my carrier for a number of years now.

3 months ago it. What I will call phone number 1, went belly up. Right in the middle of you using it the screen kind of liquor it went black and that was it.

Fortunately I had my LG L90, my faithful little work horse, as a backup phone.

The replacement phone, phone number 2, was a refurbished phone that was manufactured in July of 2015. it lasted 3 months before it went into the boot Loop Twilight Zone.

Back to the LG l 90.

Phone 2 was replaced twovdauscago by phone number 3. A refurbished phone, that was manufactured in August of 2015. It did not last past the setup stage.

First I noticed minor charging and booting up quirks.
1. Been charging with the phone off have the time I could not get the battery charging % by a quick push of the power button.
2. Half the time it would not want to boot up while plugged into the charger.
3. About 25% of the time, when it was putting up, it would stop after the little box that said applications being initialized and start the boot up process all over again.
4, after being unplug from my charger the red notification light would remain on indicating that it was still being charged.

Then there were the more meaty problems.

Several times while trying to load mor set my personal preferences, the screen with just freeze.
Sometimes as was sometimes with the lower half of the screen being pixelated.

Back on the LG L90.

Is it any wonder why I am NOT rushing to upgrade to the LG G5.

LG and Samsung and all of them need to slow down and get the current model they have out there right before pushing out more buggy cell phones with yet more bells and whistles to go wrong.

I'm going to call T Mobile customer service tomorrow and demand NEW LG G4 phone manufactured on or after November 2015.

From everything I have read on the internet about all these various issues that seems to be about the time they started getting the G4 right.

Fingers crossed here too.

The last thing LG and their customers needs is another widespread bootloop defect.

I'm not really holding my breath. Based on how they've approached the G4 issue (hold off on doing anything until reported by customer), it doesn't give me any confidence that they'd do anything to improve build quality in future phones.

Hint. Go straight to TMO retention's. Depending on how long you've been with TMO and what kind of plan(s) you have it may be the best bet. Be polite yet firm and don't take it out on the rep. Good luck!

Until they get sued, I guess...

Class action, anyone? We've got to have a lawyer in our midst? Would we have a leg to stand on?

Doubtful. They have been honoring their warranties as far as I've seen, so what exactly would we sue for? Besides, the amount we'd get from any settlement probably wouldn't be worth it.

if work for Verizon retail store and I have seen a few of these come in per week. I am really hoping that LG puts an update out quick to their devices to prevent this. the majority of people whom I have seen, did not have anything backed up. as to the S/N starting with a 505 the last one i had was a 506. that s my 2 cents

How do you release an update to resolve a hardware problem?!?
