The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

Any more feedback from repaired unit owners?

I have had my refurb 506 serial # replacment for a few days more than a month now. So far it has been working fine (although my MM update required me to do a FDR...which may well have been requried on my original G4 regardless).

At first, it seemed the battery may have been a bit better, but over time, it started to regress to the same levels I had on my own G4 originally. So, essentially, it has functioned as if I never made the switch.

Of course, the bootloop issue for many of use showed no advance warning signs, so who knows what's up the road a piece. That 506 makes me wary. Especially with the stories people are telling of their repair experiences. I am not confident that just because a repair shop had its hands on my refurb, that it fixed the bootloop issue on it. Especially given that it may have been returned originally for a different reason. LG has acknowledged that it was originally fixing this issue incorrectly, I believe.

She picked up this cheap Windows Phone and I gotta say, the OS is hideous IMO but as far as function it seems kinda killer. She logged in to Gmail and most of her contacts popped up. Keyboard is awesome. Makes me wanna see the OS with a beefed up processor.

If you don't require app support and you stay clear of Windows Phone 10 (Windows 10 Mobile), the phones are pretty good.
Windows Phones are very good for the person who doesn't want a smartphone but also doesn't want a dumb phone. WP is the student who isn't stupid enough to fail the class but it's also not smart enough to get good grades.

2/21/16: LG G5 announced
2/21/16, around 12a: My H811 sn 505 G4 bootloops for the first time ever. While I'm on vacation out of town, on the first night of a nearly week-long trip. You have got to be kidding me. :(

Mine died in the middle of a walking photo tour. I think there's a conspiracy against us lol...

Do you know (have you heard of) anyone having this problem on the one with 507 S/N ?

My friend on Verizon's phone starts with 507... hers is seemingly bricked :(
So far finding no luck in getting her phone back on... she had nothing backed up externally and all sources have said to flash the phone or replace it. Not useful in getting data and contacts :(

I have the G2, pleased with it overall. The camera could be better, but the big seller for me was the volume buttons on the back. After Samsung took away the microSD support, been sitting on the fence on whether to get the G4 or wait until the G5 came out. My cousin has the G4 and had been pleased with it until he really experienced the boot loader issue. Didn't realize how widespread the issue was until I Googled it. My confidence in LG phones took a big hit.

I had high hopes for the G5 and maybe I should wait until the G5 officially releases. But based on what I've read/seen so far, think I'll pass on the G5 and take a good look at the Galaxy S7.

I'm getting a bit worried now, as well... The S7 looks crazy amazing. I'm afraid I'll regret switching to the G4, but my G2 was on its last foot and getting unusably slow. Ugh.

Ugh, seriously haha. Thankfully, my buddy works for T-Mo, and arranged the RMA over Facebook for me hahaha, shipped to one of my trip stops, showing up tomorrow. Here's to not getting an affected SN for the refurb!

Today I got email confirmation of receipt by LG of my phone. It actually arrived there last Friday. Crossing fingers on a speedy turnaround!

I still haven't received my repaired/new unit back. But I'm seriously considering selling it and replacing it with an S7. It will depend on how much I can get for it, though.

I got a FedEx email about shipment of my phone, scheduled for Friday delivery. No email from LG saying what was done, if they repaired or exchanged the phone, etc.

I have an opportunity to purchase a LG G4 manufactured in October 2015 which would mean that the s/n starts with "510" Have there been any issues reported for the 510's?

All the cases I've seen, except one on here, have been 508 or older. That "one" would be my 509 that boot looped. Maybe the defect still exists and it just hasn't spread to newer versions yet, or maybe it was an unrelated fluke. Whatever the case, I wouldn't consider the defect still existing out of the realm of possibility.

I've already decided that if my replacement G4 fails, I'm possibly getting a Galaxy S7 Edge once I get yet another replacement.

Or the Note 6 if it's out by then. All in Onyx Black.

Today I received message from LG saying this:

Defect:
Power-No power with cable Payment Type: NOT APPLICABLE
Repair Results:
Flash Memory Repair Cost: $ 0.00
Warranty Status:
In Warranty

No mention as to having a replacement unit sent. Tomorrow I'll check upon delivery.

It's been 2 weeks and LG's repair service has yet to either repair my G4 or simply replace it. I've contacted LG directly and I'm waiting for them to act.

But quite honestly, at this point, I'm seriously considering dumping the G4. The camera is the only reason I bought it in the first place to replace the Z3 Compact which I still think is a superior phone in every way (except, precisely, the camera). And since the new S7 from Samsung is basically an Xperia with a good camera, if I can get 400€ for the G4, I'm selling it and switching to the S7 until Nokia's return.

So it isn't even done yet?!

That sucks the big one.

I'm considering the same if my replacement dies, albeit with the Edge (possibly).
