The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

Welp. *salutes phone* Off to the rainbow bridge of phones for you, sir.
Mine just bricked like this this morning, in the midst of like, the worst life crisis. I can only hope Verizon will replace it, since my step dad is seriously behind on the bill (and he's been cashing my checks toward said bill -_-).
Made an account just for this. I'm so disappointed with this bug. I'm glad I'm not the only one, but hell. Besides the overheating and connectivity issues (my building sucks for signal. The minute you get outside? 4g, no problem), now there's this?
Does anyone know if my past text messages will still be there when I get a replacement?

Good luck, David. It may just be coincidence and justifiable paranoia. Hope so.

As others have mentioned, I also had no warning at all before the bootloop of death. I think it's best for everyone, *including* those of us who got a refurb within the same serial # range (my 505 was replaced with a refurb 506...), to use universal precautions and just assume it's going to happen to you. Be prepared by backing up what you can, and if possible, keeping an old backup handset around just in case.

If it doesn't happen to you, great. Otherwise, you've prepared as much as you possibly can, because you'll almost certainly get no warning of impending doom with this issue.

Oh, and my serial is of the 507 variety. Made in Korea. Going to pop in to the local Verizon store here in an hour or so and see what the deal is.

All I know is my G4 died a few weeks ago. Same issue (Sprint). It's the ONLY reason I'm hesitant about touching that G5 when it drops. Never had to replace a single HTC device, which was all I rocked with before the G4.

Is it me or does it seem like the number of people reporting problems seems to be slowing down? Is it possible the a limited number of the affected serial numbers are actually at risk? Just thinking...

I have a 505 which I got in July and after reading through the various threads on this and other forums, it seems like I didn't have a lot of the issues that others have reported like wiffi, screen issues, bad battery life, etc.

How many of you that ended up with the boot loop had any of the other problems/issues?

David

I have three phones on my plan with the 505 S/N, and had no problems...until this weekend...when one developed the BT/Wifi issue and they wouldn't turn on. I called Sprint, who confirmed it was a known issue, and then off to the Sprint store. Less than 10 minutes later I walked out with a brand new Samsung S6. This was my mom's phone and she liked her old Samsung vs the G4 (not to mention I would have had to wait two days for a G4 since they didn't have any in stock), so I chose to get the S6. At this point I am just waiting for the other two to go out.

I like my G4, and if it was an option, I would jump on the V10 in a heartbeat. Even with the problems, at least at this point, getting a replacement isn't a problem, so I am happy with both LG and Sprint (although less happy with Sprint for withholding the aforementioned V10 :-) )

Count another T-Mobile G4 affected with the bootloop issue, this one sold in Puerto Rico with s/n 505. It died on my on Sunday in the midst of a photo walking tour with no other phone to keep shooting pictures.

I'm now waiting for LG to send the shipping label via email so I cans end it for whatever they will do. I guess my JUMP replacement will be used pretty soon after this...

Do you guys think LG would let this happen again? Seriously, what are the odds they would let something like this cripple God knows how many phones? I just don't see it happening. I think the G5 had a good chance of being LG's best device, given that this happened. A company that ships globally with their track record? This is the first thing I can remember on this scale with an LG device. I read post saying they'll never buy about LG product, but I'm going the other way. I think the G5 will be a home run given that this happened to the G4. Maybe I'm too optimistic, but that's how I feel.

I'm not saying in the least that LG would muck up another phone like that. To me, with all the good options out there, it's hard for me to commit to a manufacturer that wet the bed on the first phone I bought from them. Especially when considering that, as I said, I used 4 straight HTC phones and never had a single issue. You never forget who made the lemon. Not saying I wouldn't buy a G5, but I'm saying I'm not as gung ho as I was about a month ago.

Scary stuff. I have my refurb 505, that replaced the bricked 505, and it is acting funny lags, gets hot, and sometimes screen not responsive. I could exchange again with Tmobile but I am going to try to hold out a month or two and decide between LG G5 and S7.

It's on its way out, bruh. Those were the exact same symptoms I saw before my G4 died on me. Back up EVERYTHING frequently and wait for the imminent failure.

Thankfully mine was only built 11 days ago,my G4 had Marshmallow out of the box and with a serial number 602

This just happened to me 2 nights ago. My phone has always had an issue with getting hot (often right under the rear button). I have a replacement on the way from T-mobile. My serial does start with 505. I plan to upgrade when I see the new phones coming out (Galaxy S 7; G5; etc). I guess it is good to know it wasn't just mine.

Are you from the US? If so, what carrier? First time I see SN 602 on the G4.
I also did the IMEI LG warranty check just being curious and it said my phone was 11 days old. I am in UK

Pretty good... I am trying to get a G4 in the future and I will make sure it's one of the new ones.

Yes over here many Amazon ones are new stock plus the high street shop Argos has brand new stock in as I checked in store asking to view it. I got it on Amazon as it was cheaper and leather back. I cannot find the new white and gold G4 anywhere

The last G4 I had was a complete disaster out the box. When I made calls the earpiece kept making scratching & clicking sounds then dropping calls. Also the rotation didn't work, the camera kept making a buzzing sound, the back speaker distorted badly and music kept cutting out, when I tried to update the phone it kept saying device not recognised & touch screen kept randomly selecting something else when pressed. Had to return that one it was truly a bad one

Just received my replacement. S/N starts with 512 so I should be ok I think. In any case, without having my old phone to transfer files from the process is extremely tedious. Some files came over automatically but most did not. I had to go thru Google Play and check the files to install them. I don't recall ever doing LG backup on my old phone but I think I will on this one.

The disappointing part is LG's lack of response to this issue. That gives me pause to consider the G5 even though I enjoyed the G4 for the day I had it before it bricked...

They did acknowledge the issue. They repair units and referbs are given out by carriers.

Sent my phone today (paid for USPS shipping as the LG shipment label took forever, only to arrive AFTER I sent the phone), so I hope a rather quick turnaround on this issue. I also hope I get a most recent S/N unit, preferably with MM already installed.
