The kinda-official LG G4 bootloop thread

I got my refurb back from TMo yesterday. Still Lolipop. I woke up this morning to find that Marshmallow had downloaded. I'm installing now.

So it isn't even done yet?!

That sucks the big one.

I'm considering the same if my replacement dies, albeit with the Edge (possibly).

Nop. This what happens when companies don't have their own repair services but rather authorize third party companies to repair the phones and don't exercise tight control over those. I've had a similar problem with Sony's authorized repair service HOWEVER, they were miles faster than this LG one.

I would totally go for the Edge if they had kept it at last year's size, or offered it in Emerald Green. Because that was one gorgeous phone. Actually, if I manage to find a 64GB green S6E at a decent price, I might even get it over the S7 (although battery life does concern me...)

I actually had to ask for a replacement because they offered to repair it at first.

I think the S6 Edge should come down in price, but shop around for any good deals. Emerald Green isn't as common as the rest, but it's a pretty color.

Yeah I've now requested LG to act on it quickly. I hope they do (they were pretty quick in contacting me the first time).
The green S6E is pretty common here in Europe, luckily. Just not the 64/128GB and without microSD card slot in it, there's no way I'd ever buy anything with less than 64GB. Let's see what I manage to grab.

My luck can't be better! I received my phone back from LG, same unit was repaired via new flash memory modules, and guess what? It still has the same issue.

T-Mobile won't do a thing, and LG won't loan a phone and asks for me to send it AGAIN.

Almost leaving to my local TMO store to look for options on a JUMP replacement, dang...

Hate to ask, I don't know if you had the international version. If you had a T-Mobile G4, why did you go through LG? Just get the referb and Jump when you see something you like. Just a thought.

Hi, and thanks for your advice. I decided to wait a bit longer until 3/11 for the S7 to arrive and use my Jump exchange for the newest phone. Impulse almost made me get the S6 Edge without analyzing my situation and my options under a different light.

In the meantime, I just got another RA number from LG to send the phone again, receiving this time priority service as per the customer service representative. IF the phone arrives in perfect working order, or IF I get a replacement unit, I might stick with my G4 for a while longer. The phone is awesome and worked perfectly before the bug hit. If not, I guess Sammy will be my next phone.

And as for going through LG and not TMO, it was based on TMO charging me for shipping plus tax, and the service rep telling me that in her experience users sending their phones by themselves got a faster turnaround time. Maybe, just maybe she was told by TMO to ask customers that so they cannot be responsible for lost or damaged units while in transit? My G4 is a US version BTW.

Right on. Just curious. I know most people get their referb from Tmo in two days. I love my G4, well both of my G4's I guess. I'm on a referb too. Totally jumping to the G5. I'm not a betting man, but given that this happened with the G4, I think the G5 will be the best phone LG has ever put out. It would be bad business otherwise.

There goes the "smooth sailing" repairs.

I got back a 505. I was disappointed, but it looked like a brand new phone. It seems to run much cooler than my day one original ever did. The marshmallow upgrade was perfect. No issues. Not noticing any horrible battery life at all. Honestly I don't see any real differences.

I did my replacement via a Tmo store (my buddy did it for me over FB Messenger since I was out of town hahahaha). They shipped me a new phone, and I just have to send mine back. Had an SN 505, got a 505 as a replacement. Came with Lollipop, MM showed up a few days later. No issues so far, fingers crossed.

Lucky you! My TMO rep did offer sending my phone, but I'd have to pay for that (as I did for my Galaxy S4), plus they'd send it to the same place I did. No exchanges, no loaners. The only phone which is offered direct exchanges is the iPhone, at least in Puerto Rico.

I'm joining the club.

Woke up this morning and noticed that there were a bunch of app updates, so started the updates. Everything seemed perfectly normal. Phone froze and I had to take the battery out, but after replacing it, the phone immediately went into the irrecoverable the boot loop. Yup, it's a 505.

The rep at my local Sprint repair center said that there is a recall on the phone. He said he has to call it in and it's too late to do it tonight. But he said the phone will be replaced, possibly with a S6 if I want it. I have to admit that I really don't like the back buttons on the G4 so I told him I'll take the S6 if I can get it.

Do you have a backup device? Seems like such a shame if you couldn't hold out for the GS7.

Gendo667, thank you, thank you, thank you!

I had been trying to figure out how to port my Sprint number to Google Voice so that I could use a T Mobile phone I had sitting around (you can't port the number unless you can enter a code on the Sprint device), but your post made me realize I still have my old GS4. I can use that for a while. Not the spiffiest phone out there, but it works.

My pleasure. I, like many others of course, have been looking forward to this release cycle. When I read post like that or makes me kinda sad.

I'm really just seriously hoping that LG fixed this in the G5.

Because there is NO WAY they would allow this to happen again unless they just wanna watch the world burn.

Yeah, I've said this a couple of times. The fact that this happened with the G4 to me says the G5 is gonna be a great device. If I'm wrong, the GS8 might be my first Samsung device. Or maybe a Note 6. Cause, you know, HTC won't be around. I'm joking of course. They just won't make phones.;)
