The mobile phone market is competitive as hell. It's 2016. We don't have to time to deal with these amateurs. When you make a massive mistake on your flagship device like this, you need to compensate your customers. LG have not done that. I'm done with them.

This feels like some sort of Russian Roulette game at this point.

You won't know if you get a wonky unit or not until it strikes. After seeing a 509, 510 and 511 fail, this seems to be more random than I initially thought.

Add me to the bricked G4 list.

I've been an iphone guy for the last 7-8 years...but I finally decided that I should branch out and give the Android world a try. Spent a few weeks playing with my friend's old G2 and decided that I could probably get used to this new world.

Spent a few days scanning the ads on Kijiji (Canadian version of Craigslist) and found a guy selling an LG G4 at a price I was happy with. Yesterday was only day 5 with my new Android.....and then just poof! Dead. Battery had just finished charging to 100% and I was playing one of my mobile games when then screen just froze. Then 10 seconds later it just shut off and wouldn't come back on at all. So it sounds like I have the dead motherboard issue rather than the Bootloop problem.

LG says that I'll need to get the original bill of sale from the guy I bought it from but if I can do that then they should be able to help me with a warranty repair/replacement.

Not a great start for my Android conversion....

Actually, I'm beginning to think it is not random at all. The only random aspect is WHEN it will affect a phone, not if it will.

I'm thinking this was a manufacturing defect that only becomes an issue after so many high phone temperature cycles. They say it is a loose contact and that's why they're replacing motherboards.

I think it's like metal fatigue on pressurized jets. The airlines enforce a limited number of pressurization / depressurization cycles because they know the metal will eventually fail. They don't know exactly when it will fail, but given enough cycles it will fail.

So, I guess that's just a long way of saying this problem was not isolated to an individual production run or line. I think it affects ALL G4s, it's just a matter of it rearing it's ugly head.

I'm actually noticing some similarities with the Xbox 360 RROD issue that was so widespread back in the day.

Apparently, there's a similarity in how the LG G4 and the Xbox 360 failed. It was due to heat and a solder/connection that was not really done well. As such, the heat would have caused it to become brittle over time and cause the connection to fail, resulting in both the 360's Red Ring of Death and the G4's Bootloop of Death.

I don't think it's entirely similar, but there are some similarities. And frankly, given how potentially widespread this problem could be, LG's response is severely lacking to me.

Being a sprint store manager i have seen several of these devices coming in, it doesn't seem to end.

LG really really dropped the ball on this, completely.

Did you ever run the numbers and figure out how many G4's were sold vs. how many bricked with bootloop?

Is "sudden death" was fixed in newer models?

Hey,

I'm looking to buy a new phone, and I think to get the LG G4.

Couldn't figure whether the sudden death bug was fixed in the new models of G4.

Is it fixed?
