Found an interesting summary blog about droid 3 (Milestone is the British name for Droid):
http://artilib.org/20072285-motorola-milestone-3-is-to-be-the-finest-droid-phone-yet.html

The Motorola Droid was the first successful touchscreen phone released by the US manufacturer and the device that saved from relative obscurity after their initial slowness to adapt to the changing mobile phone market. With a mixture of great Android features, a futuristic design and a sliding QWERTY keyboard it is easy to see why the Droid, known in the UK as the Milestone, won such mass appeal.
Motorola has since released a number of additional Milestone handsets in the following years and now have their third Milestone in the pipelines ready for release towards the end of 2011. The third Milestone with remain faithful to the original design and include the same fantastic sliding QWERTY design, but will come with some noticeable changes that will mark it out as the finest Milestone yet.
This will be the first Milestone to come with a dual core processor and, combined with 1GB RAM, this will make it the fastest Milestone yet to see release. It is expected to come with at least Android Gingerbread as its operating system of choice although judging by its scheduled release date it is more than possible that it could come with Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Either way it will feature Motorola's Motoblur user interface that features some excellent social networking support.
There are also rumours afoot that the new droid will come with support the webtop docking ports that were introduced with the Motorola Atrix. If this is true then this will be the first Milestone that will have the potential to be transformed into a laptop and a multimedia hub, and considering the hardware and processing power of the upcoming phone it is easy to foresee this feature being implemented.
The Milestone will also be following the current trends of increased screen sizes seen on the likes of the Atrix and competing devices from other manufacturers. This is because it will feature a larger 4" capacitive screen compared to the 3.7" display found on earlier models, and this will also come in qHD format making it one of the highest resolution smartphone screens on the market. Multitouch and Gorilla Glass will both be on offer and judging by the rumoured support for the Atrix's webtop peripherals it is also possible that it could come with the latter device's biometric fingerprint scanner too.
Although the Milestone series has always been one centred around the QWERTY keyboard design this latest addition will have a revamped keyboard. This new keyboard will feature a new 5 row layout that will make it much more conducive to all forms of typing activity including email, threaded SMS, instant messaging and social networking. The Milestone 3 is expected to have increased data speeds for 3G, DLNA Wi-Fi and some excellent online features to put to good use.
The phone will also come with a 5 megapixel camera that will include HD video support and this will be the first phone in the series to do so. The Milestone/Droid has always been a popular smartphone partly due its robust design and partly due to its excellent keyboard and by sticking to the same formula this next addition is likely to be just as phenomenally successful and even more so thanks to the much welcomed improvements made by Motorola.

If the Droid 3 does not have at least an 8 to 12mp main camera, 4G LTE, 1080p video, GSM sim card, Global capability, 64gig card support, and an 1800+mAH battery I will be very disappointed. I will root -- if forced to -- to ditch the bloatware. Ditto the blurry overlay UI. But the hardware needs to be up to current standards in every category if this phone is to be the flagship DROID it is intended to be.

8mp cameras are the current standard.
Why bring out a new top-end smartphone on "THE NETWORK" if it's not 4G? Dumb.
HDMI is overkill if you can't make 1080p videos.
GSM is the biggest step forward vzw has made in ages, now they want to retreat?
Global had to be added-on to the Droid 2. Will vzw make the same mistake twice in a row?
Is there anyone at all in the tech world who is unaware that 64gig SD cards are otw?
I had to give my HTC TB back because of battery (and bloatware) issues. Moto take note.
So, I'm waiting...

Well, IMHO, anyway.

Prepare to be disappointed. The DROID 3 will likely not be LTE :'(

Ouch! I need a Boost.

So, you're pretty sure that "Droid does" -- 'NOT!' -- do 4G?

Since I couldn't find a better phone
than my old V9800 LG for so long,
there was no reason to upgrade.
Result: I'm not under vzw contract.

It'll be a lot cheaper and just as fast, then,
to go over to Boost Mobile.
They don't overcharge for tethering.
And, since they use the Sprint network,
the drop in coverage just isn't that great.

Buy the new 2012 Flagship Sportster -- it's all souped up with last year's best engine!!

btw, I edited the quote of me to read:

I hope the D3 is much better than the 1 or 2. My wife and I have been through a combined 15 D1's and D2's. So one the doesnt crap out after 2-3 months would be nice too. Just my 2cents.

Wtf. I don't think I could break mine if I tried. Got my d1 the first week, and its going stronger than ever.

Screen issues, software issues, but mainly on the D2 the power/wake button would randomly not respond, occasionally resulting in reboots. My wife had 2 that had pixelating screens, and on my current D2, when in landscape mode, and scrolling up or down the right 3rd of the screen lags behind. Love the Android OS, hate Motorola's droids so far. just being honest.

Maybe THATS why it wont have LTE? So far all 4G smartphones have crap battery life until you turn off 4G. Rather have a smaller phone with 1 to 2 mbps download speeds thats lasts a day than 20 mbps and a 1 inch thick battery so I can get through a work day.

The pictures would look terrible with a camera that large and such a small sensor. 8 mp is more than enough. I mean the iphone is 5 mp and takes better pics than just about every android.

The Droid 3 will not have LTE for one reason and one reason only: The current radio hardware for LTE is not small enough to make a device with a slide-out keyboard possible. It would be physically impossible to shoe-horn the necessary components into a device like the Droid 3 without making it absurdly thick.

The Droid 4 SHOULD have it, though, because by the time it comes out the LTE radios should be on their next revision.

This. Also, there's still a lot of people who are content with EVDO 3G. I don't find 3G slow at all, even though statistically it's slower than ATT's network. A 3G device might also have a cheaper data plan (at least i hope so) and it'll get better battery life.:)

That's very disappointing to hear. No offense, but I hope you are wrong. :-\

I'd personally rather the Droid 3 be an end of year device because motorola's comments suggest that an unlockable bootloader is on the horizon. The droid 3 is already rummored to have stock android. so stock android with an unlockable bootloader and premium motorola hardware would be like getting the next generation of OG Droid!

Sadly, it looks like the Droid 3 will lack LTE, at least the initial version. :(
I currently work at VZW, we just had a meeting and they stated for recent and upcoming smartphones, the 3G ones are the Droid 3, Droid X^2 and Casio Commando. For 4G, its the Charge for TBA, Revolution and Bionic for Q2.

I am disappointed that our only 4G LTE phones for the forseeable future are 4.3" devices. I was really hoping for a slider. I still hold out hope VZW will launch an LTE variant of the Droid 3, just like there was a global version of the Droid 2.

I would be kinda torqued if it went down like that. I'm going to pay full retail for a Droid3 (unless I win one somehow) and if a D3LTE came out two months later...i'd be livid.

I won't sign a new 2 year contract without 4G, and since VZ has done away with 1 year contracts, I have a feeling come the end of my contract in a few months I'll be leaving VZ unless they get another 4G phone with a dual core processor and a slide out keyboard.

Maybe the Samsung Epic 2?

This is why I bought a used D2 to upgrade my old BB Storm instead of taking an early upgrade. Options. If the D3 is not 4G, and the Epic 2 hits Sprint or TMo, I'm going to jump on it. And if nothing comes along by then, I can wait, I'm happy with the D2 for a while.

Kinda like the D2 and D2: Global last year? In addition to being global it has a faster clocked procesor.
