Thought I would start a thread to get everyone's initial impressions about the device. Based off the pictures and videos that were shared today (4th Jan 2017)

Design wise, I think it looks really good. There was some mention about the device feeling a little thicker than competitors but if we getting a rumoured 3,400mAh battery, i'm happy.

It was a nice surprise to see where the camera placement was and there was almost no bump, which is a nice plus in my book.

It was nice to see the pre-production Mercury being handled and played with, but we didn't get much in the way of new information. And MWC is about two months away.

Yeah, it does seems quite a while away but that could be the launch date? " I'm sure as the weeks go by we will get some new information.

But looking at the back of the device, it looks similar to the Leap. Textured back that grips. While glass is nice to feel, it often slips.

If this is a small, 1080p device with a 3400 mAh battery and the 625/3 combo elsewhere rumored, that's a great starting point for solid battery life.

It looks so good! It actually looks nicer than some of the renders. I'm a fan of how unique it looks, because most phones look the same these days.

That's why I love BlackBerry. Their phones are unique and not 'standard'. Makes things a little more exciting. The Mercury will definitely stand out and genuinely really excited for it. It's about the same size as the DTEK60 so it's not exactly small. (which is good)

The phone looks great and if available on TMO I will pick it up. My one question is how do you get the buying public to consider buying a Blackberry again? Nobody I know wants one. I love my PRIV so will be all in.

This appears to be a midrange device, my recommendation to them would be to severely undercut the OnePlus 3T price with some sales and make it a value proposition. If you can convince people of the security claims and entice them through their wallet, I think you'll get sales. Then when the new BB flagship, whatever that's going to be, comes out... they're possibly back on the brand.

I think it's going to be tricky. Undercutting OnePlus would also mean undercutting Alcatel.

I have a feeling TCL brought in BlackBerry to be their flagship brand tier, much like Lenovo doing with Zuk-Lenovo-Motorola. In this case would be TCL-Alcatel-BlackBerry.

I am SUPER EXCITED for this device. BlackBerry was my first smartphone and I also had the Q10; so I love keeping up with the company. The Mercury looks awesome! Absolutely love the hardware and I'm excited to one day hold the device in-person.

Speaking of the DTEK50, that is also a cool device. :)

I played on one in store and was pleasantly surprised. The screen looked really clear and was impressed with the build quality. Felt quite sturdy. But since i had just purchased a PRIV for the exact same price. it would have been a downgrade for me and no real point spending the $299 (again).

But, my wallet may go on a diet sometime around March when the 'Mercury' launches. Love that keyboard haha.

I'm envious that you got to play with it! Sounds like an awesome device! I really want to go back to BlackBerry at some point, just don't know when. My brother has a Q10 and so seeing his always makes me miss my old one!
