The Next Google Nexus Device

I believe Samsung most likely won the bid for this year.Which show google will probably leave multiple nexus project for next year. Furthermore Google has been working so hard since they have unveiled ICS and pushed out two new Nexus devices as well a new software. In addition with bring android up to date now to Jelly Bean what more can you ask for. Those I feel there is hidden gem with in Google releasing manufacture version sdk. That the manufactures can work on android software months before it is release which would make android smoother over all devices and as well make it easier to come out with multiple nexus phones.

Kudos to Google.

It's only day one, but I pray they announce or at least hint at another OEM(s) developing a new Nexus phone. I'm in need of a true HD display with J Bean

People keep forgetting that the "Nexus" models are not halo phones, they're dev platforms. No manufacturer is going to shoot their own halo lines in the foot by creating a Nexus dev model that kills their Galaxy S or One or RAZR or whatever.

That being said, they should NOT be sold primarily by carriers, because carriers (do you hear me now Verizon?) want to inject their own code. Which means it's not a vanilla dev platform anymore. This would suck for CDMA users, but such is life.

Agree. The whole reason the galaxy nexus was pretty much a step down from the sgs2 line that samsung had out. They put all their efforts into their flagship line, and it seems the nexus gets whats left over.

So what your saying is people shouldmt buy them for primary use? Correct me if I'm wrong just asking cuz I'm looking into it

Verizon G nex is the best phone out right now hands down in my opinion. the s3 is going to have better specs but is going to be lacking in software due to its touch wiz ui. the benefit of getting vanilla and faster updates is better than a few extra ghz in processor and ram and degraded touch wiz ui

I just talked to a friend who is an android developer and he told there is going to be a new nexus phone in nov-ish that has multiple radios and is going to be a true international phone that works on HSPA+, CDMA and LTE. Going to be released on mulitple carriers at once. since JB is going to come out on july 12th, i doubt 5.0 is going to come out less than 6 months after. My bet is there is another incremental upgrade maybe to 4.5 or something. Key Lime Pie anyone?

actually, they should release it to NO carriers... therein lies the problem... they should offer ONLY unlocked phones through google play or the usual resellers (best buy, amazon, radio shack, etc...)... google needs to CUT the carriers out of the equation completely... GN is messed up because of VZW...

I agree with you. Nexus should be sold only through google and not through a carrier. Carriers getting their hands on these has prevented the true Nexus experience and I'd only be stoked on getting it from the play store. I'm hoping for Samsung but with better materials. Would be cool to have from a few different vendors to bring some choice to the game.

Galaxy Nexus 2 with a quadcore Exynos that plays nice with LTE. HD Super AMOLED+ screen. Same curved design, possibly a little thinner (although I've never held a GSM Nexus until I get mine next week from Google). Improved camera, possibly better than the S3 is now. 2 GB of RAM. 2100-2500 mah battery.

All that, but -only- from Google. Eliminate the carriers.

..didn't they try that with the Nexus One? :)

I'm just hoping that Sprint gets the next Nexus, I doubt verizon will get it with all the mess they caused with their GNex.

the thing i love about google is that so far all have been GSM ;)
would be cool the 5 OEMs nexus ... finally a motorola with unlocked bootloader :P (one can dream lol)

Here's my take on the next nexus......With us already having a button less 720, I doubt they will release a phone with the same screen resolution when there are better ones available. I would like to see a Samsung non pentile 1080 display, to blow everything we ever seen out of the water. Good possibility this will happen because the nexus was one of the first phones to get the 720 screen, and another would leave little room to improve in other areas, hell the nexus is all about screen. that's why it has no buttons.

I'm confused as to why everyone thinks the next Nexus will come with Jellybean. IMO Jellybean was a minor update. One of the first few updates in several months on a phone that is supposed to get many updates straight from Google. The next Nexus will likely have key lime pie as an update or something like that, but defiantly a new version.

Lastly, I would like to see the next Nexus to focus on build quality more than any other area. Screens are getting pretty similar, audio too, we need a phone made of an indestructible carbon like material so we wont have to worry about scratches, drops, anything....nothing shiny or reflective, dark black like the paint on fighter jets.

Wishful Thinking: Something on par with Haptikos technology, the button feedback that makes regular screens feel like they have buttons, that would be a game changer. Games would have real buttons and analogs, keyboard will have a real feel again with muscle memory and all . Its pretty old by now and can be done.

Well, many speculate that the next Nexus device(s?) won't work on Verizon's network, so either way, I lose out (I'm not planning on leaving Verizon). :/

Anyway, I hope Android 5.0 isn't released this year; I don't want Android to follow the path as iOS. That is, releasing a new numbered version every year, even though none of the updates/ changes really constitutes a whole new number. I'd rather they stagger the releases a little. Maybe do a new numbered version every other year, when they're going to do a major change to the OS.

As for the Nexus itself, I'm hoping to see great battery life; if Motorola can squeeze a huge battery into the Razr Maxx, I hope other manufacturers can start finding a way to do something similar.

I hope HTC makes the next Nexus phone. I'm no fan of the industrial design of most Android phones especially the use of plastic as it looks and feels cheap. HTC is the only company that makes truly beautiful phones on par with iPhones (people can dislike Apple all they like but the design of their products is beyond excepcional).

Apple phones look ugly...sorry. Galaxy Nexus looks and feels good in the hand. Don't know what youre yapping about.

Anyway, I hope the rumors of different OEMs making the next Nexus are true.

Personally i like the multiple nexus device idea. Brings some variety. im sure there are people out there who dont need the most powerful phone one the market but still want the pure android experience. Im guessing two tablets and three phones(high end, mid range and low end) samsung has made the last two so they can sit this year out. I like the gnex but i still prefer htc and moto over samsung. id love to see a HTC Nexus Two.

I guess I'm just not a fan of cheap feeling plastic but to each their own I suppose. Different OEMs would be welcome for sure it seems.

^^^ This PLEASE.

Rumors early this year that Samsung won the bid for this year's nexus. Then a couple month before Google I/O, Wall Street Journal stated Google working with 5 major manufacturers to come out with several nexus devices (Smartphones) this fall.

I am personally hoping for google to come out with 5 nexus devices this fall and for me to have HTC Nexus device based on best what I love about HTC brand.

I'm thinking about a Motorola Nexus

-Great signal strength and connectivity in general
-Quality of the loud speakers
-Call Quality
-Strong devices well made
