The Note 7 Battery life Thread

I rum mine on medium used all day started 5AM drove 40 miles with google maps 40 texts 12 calls 1 hrs of game play 7pm 73% left i'm satisfied

I customized the Medium setting and am amazed at how much I got out of this device today!!

I keep hoping for longer battery life in devices... But as processors and displays get more efficient, we keep adding more features, high res screens, etc that use up the battery.

I turned off wifi scanning, that's a big one. BT is off unless I'm using it. Location is off when I'm home. I use package disabler pro and disabled a bunch of Sprint and Samsung stuff like the health tracker, Gear apps and Fipboard. Sync is on for Google apps but no sync for FB or Twitter.

This is all of the exact same stuff I did for the Note 5 in order to get 2.5 hours of SoT. I couldn't understand how people were getting 5 hours SoT with the Note 5, and I even FDR that phone. I haven't had to do that with this one.

How u turn off wifi scanning.. I don't see it.. I use to always see it in older phones

I could never use it the way you have medium configured. I would need to make sure that I have my apps running so I can get email on demand. Interestingly though, when I checked off Limit device performance it says I'll get better performance than if I stopped Background Network usage. I also changed it to FHD and Max Brightness to 90%. That increases my battery life by 90 minutes. Going to go that route whenever needed.

Mine close to 4 Hours SOT with 20% left.

I personally don't care about battery life as long as it last me the day then charge it overnight. Until we can see a smartphone that last for 2 days, i don't really care.

Why is Android system so high?

Maybe your not doing anything more demanding than just using android. What I mean is it's not high at 23% it's just using 23% of the battery at that time. If you open a game for an hour that would be for example 40% of the battery then the screen could be 37%, then your android system would probably drop to 8% or something. It all adds up to 100% so if it was using 97% and the rest of the phone was using 3% it still used 100%, doesn't mean the battery will drain any faster.

It just means its less demanding on the battery than the game therefore gets a lower %.

Hope that helps, I always get confused when there's a post that android is using 67% of the battery and all the user has done is text with no gaming or browsing etc . That's why it was more demanding at 67% because nothing else was used on the phone.

Better example if you had 100 processes running at 1% each then it still uses 100% battery and no one would complain.

But if you Had 10 processes running it would be at 10% each as an example, doesn't mean it used 9% more battery it just means there was less processes running so the % of battery use was higher for the statistics.

Yup.

Percentage is the wrong metric to judge process efficiency as you pointed out.

People should just look at the mAh that the process is consuming instead.

I got my Note 7 on Opening Day. Battery life was 6 hours with 4 hrs SOT. Since then, I have turned off screen enhancer, and uninstalled K9 mail, and have auto brightness on screen. The last 3 days have been 10 hours until recharge, and 6 hrs SOT. Very happy with this phone!

8/25 Almost 16 hours off charger with over 5 hours SOT.

This is really impressive, only getting about 3.5 hours of SOT, with 12 hours on battery.

Took it off the charger around 6am today. Admittedly, I did use the mid battery saver for some part of the day.

Best to compare to your previous device, since only your own app use, settings, network use, media, radios, sensor use, etc really matter.

Agree, lasting through a day of normal use is minimum requirement for a phone today. 12hr SOT is on the wish list.

Connections >more connections >wifi scanning > toggle off.

Turning off Wifi scanning has greatly improved my battery life. (I was getting about 4 hours SoT before.)


I also have 'location services' turned off unless I'm using it.

Im pretty impressed. As you can see I had the phone on the charger at some point. This was only for about 10 minutes as I was driving somewhere and using voice guided navigation. Now I wish I had just let it run off battery to see where I'd be officially!

Basically whether if it last 9hrs or 3 days.. No matter what you're screen time will only be around 6 on normal settings.

Huh? There's no setting I can see called Connections.
