I have the extended battery and had the phone since Sunday. Each day it seems I have been getting better battery life (breaking the battery in I guess). Yesterday, I feel, was the real test for normal use. After having it unplugged for about 16 hours or so under normal use I was still sitting at 50%. I do a lot of messaging on talk and use it as my work phone for phone calls so it gets pretty good use. No LTE in my area, though so that is shut off.

Hey guys, remember me?

Battery life hasn't been too good for me so far, even when not using the phone at all. When I wake the phone's screen at around 7:30AM, there is 70% battery life left. 30% gone with virtually no usage over 2 hours.

I swapped in a full battery before I went to bed. By the time I went to bed (10:30PM) it was down to 80%. When I woke up (6:00AM) the phone would not turn on because the battery had drained to 0%.

I really don't get what the issue is, but no matter whether the phone is completely idle or not, whether 4G is enabled or not, the phone will drain below 40% within 5-7 hours. Within 30 minutes it's under 80%.

With 4G off, screen off and just checking my notifications I can't ever make it past 1PM (today it made it to 1PM, which was a rarity).

Well, look at me now:

That's almost 12 hours on the same battery ALL DAY and only down to 50% with light-to-moderate usage (several texts, reading some emails, 1.5 hours of Pandora Radio streaming, etc). Before, I couldn't use the same battery past 1PM (5-6 hours of usage) without it being at <30% no matter what I did.

So what changed? Did I download Juice Defender? Did I turn the screen brightness down? Change data delivery options? No. None of that. The only change I made was that I disabled Widget Locker lockscreen replacement before I went to bed last night.

It was borderline amazing to me when I was at work this morning. I had used Widget Locker for about a month on my OGD1 before I bought the Bionic, and it had no ill effect on battery life. So I never thought to disable it. But I did, and this morning I picked up my phone at around 11AM after having not used it all morning and was completely shocked to see it still at 100%! Usually, without any usage at all, by 11AM the phone would be around 60-70%.

Of course, 4G was off all day, but I always operate with 4G off until I want to stream video or web surf. I may turn on 4G tomorrow all day just to see what life will be like.

TL;DR: Bottom line, if you have a lock screen replacement and battery life issues, try disabling the lock screen replacement.

Thats 4g on, no gps, no google account setup, no My Verizon profile setup, on an unrooted bionic.

Its not that I'm trying to do any "hypermiling" on my battery, I just haven't had time to set things up yet.
But, these results seem to indicate that 4g itself does not suck batteries dry, its the applications.

There is hope that some tweaking of code could radically improve battery life.

I've had mine on for 4 hours and it's used 10% of the extended battery. Very light use of course. If I tested it as you just did I probably could get days on it but then I wouldn't be using it much.

There is a major factor to battery life - it's the ability to connect to 4g or the cell radio. If you live in an area (or in a house) that makes it hard to get a signal you will use WAY more battery than when you are in a good area.

My house is cell phone proof - we have to go to a certain area and window to make a call. So I set up high speed wi-fi and use that when I'm at home.

I set up wi-fi at work also but I get a good signal there.

I am using widgets on every screen. I have wi-fi, 4g, gps, and everything else on. I run screebl, imo, date in tray, beweather, and a ton of other stuff all the time.

I use it. I have over 5 email accounts going with k-9 that update in different intervals. I also run Pulse news reader with about 30 feeds updating every hour.

So even the 4 hours it's just been sitting here it's been doing stuff.

Of course with the OG Droid I couldn't have nearly as much stuff running and my battery would last 10 minutes. However the Bionic does just fine as long as you don't have a rogue app draining your battery.

By the way I find that Screebl says it takes most of the battery but it does not. It's a reporting bug.

I dont see any spikes in drop from usuage, and screen time is almost nil... Im guessing it was just a full charge and place on desk?

Found the same as you. Widget locker caused excessive battery drain for an idle phone

Yeah it's pretty amazing. On 4G I can make it through a full day with moderate usage but not any more. On 3G I can make it all day easily. I'll continue to switch back and forth between LTE and 3G when needed, but I'm really happy to be able to use the phone normally now.

Yeah, I really like Widget Locker, but when I installed it I noticed an enormous difference in battery life (even on extended battery). I've since disabled it. It's nice, but it's not THAT nice that I have to recharge my (extended battery) phone constantly.

I'm puzzled!! Most of the time my Droid Bionic extended battery only will last around 7 hours and it'll be down to around 20% charge left. However on 2 occasions now it has worked at Bionic levels where I'll get 11+ hours and still be at 70% charge left. This is with out changing any settings or utilizing the phone in different locations. Any ideas why? Or any ideas how to get this performance on a consistent basis?

Good tip but actually it was off, that was just there from me taking like 30 pics. :)

ah...

Well looks like Apple took a Stab at the Bionic. Saying that we have the slowest Camera...
It's the Camera App! 360Camera takes very nice pics as mere seconds-

Its not the camera its self but the software. Its supposed to be fixed in the Nov update.

Just picked mine up this past Friday. Yesterday was my frist day out with it all day at work and whatnot. I took it off charger at 7AM and put it back on charger at 9:30 and it had just hit the 15% warning. I can live with that. I use it fairly heavy during the day for email and messaging. I am rooted with all the appropiate listed items frozen through Titanium backup and using a regular battery. I saw someone mention Widget Locker in a previous post and I do use that. I also use Juice Defender Ultimate which I think makes a big difference. I am located in Scottsdale and I was on 4G all day, never dropped to 3G.

Currently today on day 2, I am at 70% at 1PM after about 6 hours off charger.

One question I did have if someone could clue me in, is why the battery life is only reported at 10s and not individual digits.

motorolas do that for some reason. if you install the unl3ash3d rom you can get 1% battery increments :D i like it
