The Official Battery Life Thread

Does it do the battery any harm to leave it to charge overnight? I only ask because it goes to 100% then back to 95% and back again as long as it is left on the charge.

Thanks

Stevie

Usually, I charge my phone before I sleep. When the phone is on the charger, once the light turns green, if I check the battery level, it shows 100%. If I remove it from the charger then, and don't do anything with it (except leave my Emails syncing), it will usually have about 98% charge by morning (8 hours later).

But, if I forget to remove the phone from the charger as soon as it turns green, and wait about 30-45 minutes or so, the battery will show me 97% when I remove from the charger!

So, in other words, if I leave the phone on the charger after it shows 100% charge, and wait 30-45 minutes, the battery would have already dropped about 3% or so. But if I remove it from the charger as soon as it hits 100% charge, the battery will only drop 2% overnight... !!!???

I have the calendar widget, the weather widget, the stock widget and the people widget (all stock HTC widgets). None of them are really data intensive though. I have my Email account syncing in addition to this - but that's about it.

Once I remove it from the charger at night (about 9-10 pm) - of course assuming that I remove it exactly when it turns green, it only drops 2-3% by the time I wake up.

Edit: I had the same experience with my EVO 4G after I installed the stock GB update. (before GB, it would drop over 10% easily)

I have excellent battery like on my 3vo. I get a good 20+ hours of life with moderate to heavy use.

I have 2 emails set to push along with weather,Reuters and Facebook. Yet I have no problems with my phone giving out on me. The only problems I run I to is when I'm in a dead zone and forget to put airplane mode on.

How exactly or you getting 20+ hours? Are you using wifi a lot? In airplane mode half the day? I can't see getting 20+ hours with moderate to heavy use without some tricks being used.

I am on WiFi most of the day. Don't use airplane often. Idk sometimes I get the 20 hour days and others not so much. Not doing anything special just lucky at times I guess..

For what its worth. I am running a 3500mAh after market battery. I was dropping down to 30% at the end of the day with very little use.
Over the weekend i backed up my personal data. Then did a hard reset.
I installed the apps from the market from scratch with the exceptoin of a few apps i never actually used. Then only restored contacts and SMS/MMS, bookmarks..
After setting up my emails, logging into my newly installed apps and configuring it like the way it was, or as close to it, i found my self getting double the battery life as before.
Its been a few days now and at the end of the day when the device was around 30% i am around 55-60% left.
I have always thought that after any major update a hard reset is needed. HTC always recomended this with the windows mobile line of devices when they were upgraded. Thinking back to Mogul and Touch.
For those of you having battery issues, it might not hurt to back up your data and try a hard reset.
I am glad i did.

I would love to do a hard reset if Android wasn't so bone-headed about backing up data. I still feel like the phones are in the palm-pilot era for that compared to Apple.

Ugh. So far I've had extremely mixed results as to what my battery life ends up being.

One day it lasts all day with steady use, everything on except bluetooth. The next day with barely any use and nothing on, it dies in only a couple of hours. I can't figure out what the problem is. I've gone through and removed apps that have been continuously running, used numerous battery checker apps all to no avail (they have proven time and again to just be a waste of time and space, I recommend avoiding.)

I can't figure out why one day the battery is good, and the next it's god awful. Last night I had it on the charger while I slept and woke up accidentally around 3, so I unplugged it since it was fully charged. I woke up again at 5:30 for work and it was yellow. WTF. There was no use in there, and everything was off.
