The Official Blackberry Convert Thread

I fixed my Blackberry problem. I have a Droid X on one line and a BB on another. Now I have bliss. Got the BB for Text and quick emails, and the Droid X for surfing and placing orders for my business on the nice big screen and phone calls too.

I am a convert (although I will keep my S2 as a backup, just in case). I have linux on my laptop so I am pretty familiar with the open source os...its just that this is my first android phone :-) and i am excited!!!!! i just have to wait patiently for it to come....

Am I the only one that does not like BBM? O:
I never knew why people raved about it, but i think i had two friends that acctually used it so it wasn't worth having because it just ate the poor lil BB's memory and battery! Anyways i switched from a BB storm 1 got my DX on the release date and was goin crazy waiting! Now that i have it the BB S1 seems so archaic in comparison!

Came from the storm 1 which was my first blackberry. I was one of the few people that actually enjoyed my storm. After about a month I discovered beta os and never looked back.
I will not really miss bbm because I only knew one other person in my small town that used blackberry. Everyone else was either an apple fanboy or had a dumb phone.
Ive been enjoying my droid x so far and can't wait for froyo

I came from an original BB storm as well. I enjoyed it for the time being until I came across the Android OS. Since then, I have been addicted to exploring every aspect of the OS. So much infact that I have started programming for the device!

After a year or so of debating the leave from Blackberry

I'm finally making the move. Had considered the original Droid, the Indredible, Palm Pre. Finally decided to do it when the Droid X was released.
Leaving the Blackberry Pearl. Ordered 07/20 and shipping date said to be 08/03. Can't wait!

I hope to be a converted BB user soon! I ordered my X on the 19th and I am just waiting on it to arrive.. I really hope to have it Monday, but have yet to get a shipping notification.. Fingers crossed.. Cant wait to get rid of this Storm 1.

well i had the Curve....Storm 1....Tour...then the free Bold.... and im here now with the Droid X... i really do like the phone. its fast and ha a real browser.. but Facebook stinks on it and email push isnt that great.. but i love everything else about it...

I went from the Moto Q to the Storm and now its back to a Moto.

I wonder how many people have made the exact same journey. This is my exact same path. 10 more days until I can order by DX and get rid of of this Storm 1 that I hate so much! If only my New Every 2 eligibility date worked off of when I ordered the POS... (I waited 2 weeks after launch to get my Storm). Hopefully the supply issues with the DX will be caught back up so that I don't have to wait long after ordering the DX.

Today is 1 week since i became a Droid X owner, as much as i loved my S2, I am not regretting my jump one bid.

Tried waiting for the storm 3 but the leaked specs were a complete letdown, time to give droid a try.

From BB->Android

I have been with blackberry for 2.5 years. I know, that's not long compared to many people, but I really liked my Storm, and that has been my only BB. I knew that the iPhone was way advanced, but would never, ever go to AT&T so I didn't really care. However, since the Android OS came out, and especially the Droid line, I began to notice how BB was not really making many advancements, and will probably always be a business line of phones, not that that is a bad thing. I am very excited that my new Droid X will be my first
Android phone. Should be getting it in tomorrow.

im very excited bout my droid x. i had a storm 2 for the past 4 months. i liked it but it was fairly slow. my biggest pet peeve was the huge lag when i pushed the send/phone button to make a call. I would push it again and accidentally call the last person in my phone log. So annoying!! But Im not here to rag on the Storm 2. Just another bb convert excited about her droid x!

I just made the switch to verizon from my sprint bb. Oh, the love affair I had with the bb's...but I left a long rant on cb.com about why it just doesnt cut it in 2010, and I meant it. I COULD NOT BE HAPPIER with my droid x. Android rules, this device rules, I'm sold. I like ios too, that's why I have an itouch. Because this is an actual reliable phone, too, who'd have thunk it!? Plus I've already found this site to be every bit as helpful and awesome as cb.com, which its saying a lot!

Wow, I am amazed at how many people are doing the same thing I am. I got a Storm 1 on release day, and am jumping ship for an X. I was waiting on the S3 and LTE to get here. Now it looks like, instead of a 2010 S3, the S2 gets a refresh this year just to handle OS6 and the S3 gets released in Q1 2011. 9 months is a long time to wait off contract. So, it's an X for me. LTE can wait for now.

Besides, I realized that every BB patch official or not had issues. Not that any smartphone is perfect, it just had too many problems for a device that was supposed to be a business oriented phone. The OS is outdated, and it does not look to change even with OS6. I don't hate RIM or my Storm. I still like it very much. I even have my original Storm, never had to return it. When my next NE2 is up in 2012, if RIM has gotten it right, I'll consider them again. Until then, hello X!

I don't miss the Facebook notifications at all. I would much rather get the emails when there is a direct message. I don't always like to go into the application. Same thing with the Twitter application. I would rather not have instant notifications.

What I miss from my bb storm is:

1) the sound profiles. I've tried various android apps but they just don't work as well as the native bb profiles did.

2) copy and paste. I always took it for granted with the bb. It seemedlike a basic feature to be able highlight any text and then copy and paste it into another location or application. Android needs to integrate that into the OS; that's a petty big oversight on android's part.

I think that's about it. This is one hell of a great phone and I love it more and more every day as I learn the os.

Why Android Over Blackberry?

Ive had the X for one week now and im starting to wonder why Android is better than Blackberry. I need your help to optimize my Android experience.

Im coming from a BB storm and so far im not really seeing what all the fuss is about Android and it may very well be because Im not taking full advantage of my Android device. Blackberry integrated my contacts with my calandar better ie birthdays. It did facebook notifications better. It did email notifications much better. It did calandar notifications better. It did battery life better. It did spell check better. It seems like this phone needs a million apps just to do what blackberry stock can do. My android phone lags just as badly as my blackberry did ie the app drawer. It seems like the only advantage Android has is the apps and widgets but it seems like if i install too many apps or widgets my phone slows down and my battery life sucks. So what's the point?

I simply trusted my Blackberry more with important things. I do not trust this phone yet like i did my blackberry. Please help me utilize my Android phone better. I want to love this phone but right now im seriously considering going back to Blackberry. Help!

My first smartphone was the BB 8330 I got two years ago. I loved the keyboard and the push e-mail, but once I tried to surf the web and download lots of cool apps, I ran into a wall. It is simply inexcusable that it has such low application memory, not to mention terrible memory leaks that require battery pulls. And the non-Webkit browser is crap; all I use it for at this point reading the full versions of News/RSS feeds. I loved the promise of the blackberry, but RIM broke my heart. While BBM is cool, and I'm glad RIM has finally committed to a Webkit-powered browser, BBOS 6 is simply too little, too late. I can't wait to get my Droid X (once it's back in stock)!
