I am making the switch! - Never thought I would leave BB.

I have been with BB for three years and loved it. I even got several family members to go to BB. In those 3 yrs, I had the Pearl, Curve, and both Storms. I was really disappointed with the release of OS6 - and the hardware they put on the Torch. Not much to look forward to! - I was going to wait till the Storm3 came out anyway.

Stopped in at VZW just to look around..... started looking at the Android phones especially the DX. That night I ended up ordering it from the VZW website!

I'm still on the Storm2, but I am excited for the DX to arrive. Been reading through the forums to learn everything I can.
I think I will miss some things on the BB
- The Multicolor led for msg's
- BBM groups
- screen capture (I use it a lot)

So far, from what I have read, the Android platform has plenty to offer. Much more than what I can see coming down the road from RIM

The DX does have an LED and I think there is an app available to change it.

No BBM groups sucks and as noted if you root the phone you can take screen shots of it.

I'm making the switch from the 8330 to the X. Just waiting for the X to show up at my doorstep. I enjoyed my Blackberry in a lot of ways, but I didn't see higher end models as upgrades worth the time or money. Yeah, the newer ones are a bit slicker and faster but functionally the same. After seeing the videos of BB 6.0 I was underwhelmed. Again, just a slightly slicker version of the same-old same-old.

The camera and the browser on the 8330 are just awful.

After playing with a DX at the Verizon store, I think I'm gonna be happy.

I recently switched as well. I got the Tour the day it came out and immediately had problems with the trackball. I didn't realize this until I went to CB. After that I went through four total. I was able to get a brand new Storm 2 free and I switched to that. I ordered my X on 20 Jul, it said it wouldn't ship until 3 Aug, but I got it 27 Jul. I am glad I made the switch. There are only two things that I don't like about the Android OS, but other than that it blows RIM's OS away.

I became a Droid X convert this week. I had a Blackberry 8830, a Storm (which I hated - the screen kept freezing up) and a Tour (funky trackball behavior). I got the Droid X mainly for the big screen and I really like it. My son filled it with some great apps but I do miss BBM, particularly the feature of seeing when the message was delivered. Is there a compatible messaging app for Droid?

I just added a widget on the home screen that only shows texts. So far it has been working great for me.

any proggie out there that does this I found some but Id like something close to the BB and as simple.

Just want 3 profiles

Beautiful Widgets (about $2) has a great clock and weather, but also has some really simple toggle type widgets that I have put on my main home page. One is Vibrate and one is Silent. Press either and your phone is instantly in that state, with a green light under it to let you know at a glance if you've got your ringer off.

I am really going to miss BBM and my girlfriend is furious that I am switching. I ended up setting up a gmail account solely for my Droid, so that way I don't have to worry about friends seeing me "online" at 4 AM and sending me chats. I set it to "always available" and just give it out to people I would normally give out my BBM to. Only thing that sucks about it is not being able to tell when a message was delivered/read.

Yeah, my bb friends weren't to thrill i went back to emailing and texting. I set up a gmail but that's strictly for my calendar sync. Im a ymail user. I've had a yahoo account since freshman year in college.

Converted from a Storm 1 user to an DX. well, i havent technically converted because my DX still isnt here!!!! Ordered on the 6th and still no notification of tracking number or anything. Never thought i would leave BB but the lack of putting out a phone that wasnt the norm just turned me off to BB. Walked into the VZW store and played with the X for a bit, and I fell in LOVE.

I've been waiting for my contract to get to upgrade mode and I had my eye on the Bold for a long time. I was set on it, couldn't be convinced otherwise, until I picked up the DX for the first time. Browsing the web on the bold vs on the DX was miles apart. I have never been a big fan of touch screens, but the size on the DX was enough to get me to ditch the idea of the BB keyboard. That, and the realization that BB is seemingly afraid of innovation as shown with the Torch/BB6 event. I finally allowed myself to let go of the BBOS, and now, I think I've found something to be completely happy with.

The list of reasons (large and small) would be enormous and time consuming to create, but in a nutshell, walking away from RIM and picking up an Android device has been the most enjoyable technology decision I can recall making.

Check out Quick Profiles. I use it to turn bluetooth on when i get in the truck and wifi on when i'm at home. It works great.

Ordered my Droid X the other day been using BB for almost 4 yrs 8830 to Storm now waiting for my X to be delivered. Can't wait for my X to arrive spent an hour today in Verizon playing with the floor model. Hoping 2.2 comes quickly too.

Ordered my droid x on the 15th and waiting for it to come in now. I've been using a blackberry for two years(Storm 1 & storm 2). Now I'm just rdy to put my storm 2 in the closet & using my droid x. hurry up verizon...

After being on the X from a BB9000 for about 4 weeks now, I can make a few observations:

1. I miss the unified messaging like a crack head misses crack.
2. BBM will be missed as well.
3. I miss Flycast.
4. I miss data and voice at the same time.
4.5 Verizon has a kick *** network otherwise.
5. This phone is stupid fast.
6. Holds a charge very well. My Bold 9000 was dead after 8 hours without a charge.
7. Love the large screen and overall form factor.
8. I do not miss the physical QWERTY.
9. Far easier to set up the phone for how you work vs. having to find some dumb theme to get functionality.
10. Full web experience.

I just called Customer Service and asked to have my upgrade date moved up from October. The BB9530 is going into the junk drawer soon. DX here I come.
