The official S7 /S7 Edge review thread

Yes, please keep me posted on what you guys observe.

True first time use/setup is a lot going on. But, I am feeling it warm up after that as well.

I am hoping it's just a fault unit that I got?!?! I absolutely love the build and design of this device. The choppiness is not very encouraging. It's more evident when using Chrome and scrolling through the page. Android Central for e.g. is laggy n choppy. Same with The Verge.

Chrome on A/C and The Verge at least on all my previous Samsungs, have always been laggy, at first it was said that it was because of the Exynos chipset with the JavaScript, but if it still does it with the Snapdragon chip then it's something else. This was the main reason why I changed to use Samsung's default browser and the experience is way lot better.

If you want to see what i'm saying, go to your Chrome Settings and turn off Java Script, you should see an immediate better scrolling, problem is that you'll be crippling your Browser experience. If you confirm what I'm saying here just try the Samsung Browser and see if it's better for you. I was one that always used Chromed so I could sync between all my devices, but after using the Samsung browser with my S6 edge and all my devices after that I've never looked back. The experience to me is far superior plus you integrate the Fingerprint Web Sign-In for extra security and it makes it even better.

Not knocking anything, but this is all from 1 persons thoughts when he used the phone a little bit the first day.

Everything I have seen from everyone else and all the reviews were opposite of it, so I think it will be fine.

Everyone is excited for an initial review. Overreaction can be expected

Of course, you are right. Everyone has different usage habits and different expectations. My comparison and baseline expectation was set coming from the Nexus 6. I am eager find out if this is more prevalent.

That being said - I did notice differences in performance when using the Samsung browser vs. Chrome when accessing the above mentioned websites. Seems to me more about optimization that Samsung decided to focus on. Let me get a video together to show you guys what I am referring to.

Cheers!

That's what I mentioned above, I'm glad it worked better for you, and I'm sure that the wifi issue you are having will be also fixed if you change it to IPv4. But it's like if Chrome/Samsung Devices/JavaScripts are not optimized together.

Yea man @Erasat. I meant to mention your post. I have to try the IPv4 setting when I get home.

Interesting to see Sammy focusing more on optimizing their browser than Chrome. Would love to see what people observe when using/testing this device out.

Well I have been with HTC the EVO and I am getting the 7 Edge and am looking forward to it. The 1st original EVO had the best camera back then. And when we upgraded from the M8 to the M9 it was a disappointment not much difference and wasn't worth the upgrade. So now I am reading all these comparisons of the 6 and 7 and all I know is a friend has the 6 edge she lives out of town and like it. My friend here had an S6 and was taking pictures one night and they were great much better than my M9. So I am hoping the 7 Edge is just as good or better and I'll be happy. Over the summer our M9's were getting hot and my husbands would be in the car dock with GPS on and stop charging and get hot. But were looking forward to the change and I am pre-ordering tomorrow. He may just do the S7 though cause of the defender case he likes he hasn't decided but I am getting the silver edge. I've read all good reviews so far and came back to the forum to hear what everyone has to say about it and see who's all getting it.

Please be aware that those two websites give my full sized computer absolute fits as well regardless of what browser I use. This forum's webpage is maybe the worst of any website I've ever visited. At least half the time it crashes my computer's browser.

So I wouldn't draw too many inferences from any weirdnesses on this appalling site.

I'll post this again:

Scrolling in webpages in Chrome with unlocked Galaxy S7 edge is like butter.

WOW!!!!

That is incredibly impressive performance. I am super relieved after seeing that!

Thanks.

[Edit] However is that using the AC app or the actual website? It's the website that is the problem.

I've never yet owned a phone that didn't get very hot during the first time I used it. There's a lot of syncing, downloading, and other processes going on in the background upon first use. Just like you can't judge battery during the first few days of use, so shouldn't you be too concerned that the phone gets warm.

Completely agree. A new phone is probably working harder than it ever will in the first 24 hrs you have it. I don't worry too much about imperfection for the first couple days...kind of expect it.

Sounds like excuses to me. My 6P nor M8 ever had a problem new.

That's great for you. But that's a sample of one (or two if we're counting phones) . I've never had a new phone that didn't get hot when I set it up. Also glass and metal phones feel different with regards heat. I don't think it's worth mentioning myself until it happens in numerous cases and with normal use.

Android Central is a very poorly optimized site from a design perspective. Run it through any of the standard testing sites like GTMetrix and it gets a horrible score. Wouldn't affect the scrolling performance as much as page load speed, but it gives you an idea of how much they care/don't care about optimization. They could save themselves a ton of server resources by doing some simple optimizations.

Just tried the S7 in a T-mobile store and I'm convinced Samsung will never completely fix the lag/scrolling issue. Every phone it seems to get better but it still there. And if it isnt there at first over time it will be. The keep pumping up the specs but cant seem to optimize performance. I had the S6 and now an iPhone 6s Plus. I was thinking about jumping to the S7 but seems like some of the issues that plagued the S6 still exists. I know its still very early and I'll wait till more reviews are out but so far I'll pass.

Tried two stores with both the Edge and S7 without seeing any lag. Very smooth from what I saw, and will be moving to the Samsung S7 Edge. Had the iPhone 6S Plus and it to showed no lag, but it was bigger than the S7 Edge, did not like screen or camera that much, but good, just not great overall as some have reported.

Edited: Went back to best buy, and used the Edge again, but this time I had more time with it. Still no lag with multiple apps open. Very smooth. Camera was good in Mall lighting.

Go to developer option->force GPU rendering. This almost completely eliminated scroll stuttering.
