The official "Where the hell is Gingerbread?" thread

Gingerbread is almost here i say give Google a week or two and us nexus one users will be the first to taste it!:p

Last time Google used the phrase "coming weeks" was for the froyo upgrade.

I waited for the OTA, just to see how long it would take.

It was 6 weeks.

4 and a half weeks for the lucky few who got review phones and got it early.

From the time it started arriving OTA on SOME phones as reported on AC, it was another week and a half before it hit my late model nexus.

So 6 weeks. = Christmas.

I want my Gingerbread update badly too :(
I know a few guys who work at Google but they wouldn't tell me the exact release date for Gingerbread, instead they told me it will be out soon. For me, "soon" could mean a lifetime. I just hope it gets officially released before/on Christmas because you know... that would make more sense, gingerbread cookies + red and white striped candy + red/white/green colors = Christmas theme anyone? :p

I think is going to be released next year :(

Few days ago some voices were rumoring something for 20th December... but at this time someone should have already received the upgrade if it was true

It will probably arrive during the Xmas holidays when we are all busy with family. I'll need to hide in the bathroom and update at this rate!

I'm hoping it will release sometime next week. But at the rate its going we most likely won't see it until next year...

Yeah, it's going to be awhile longer :(
Going by jbqueru's tweet about AOSP, it looks like maybe the last week of Dec, or early Jan. That's my guess anyway.

PREFACE: I made no effort to verify any of what my seat-mate on the airplane said to me.

According to my seat mate who claimed to work for El Goog (AGAIN, I MADE NO EFFORT TO VERIFY ANY OF WHAT HE SAID), Gingerbread is going to be a little bit, he felt at the earliest end of Dec. most likely first or maybe even second week of Jan.

I asked why such the wait and he said he has no idea, that he is in Corporate (apparently he is some sort of Accountant) but that is what friends of his who work on Android have told him.

Again, I have no idea if this guy was blowing smoke up my butt, or telling the truth, I am simply passing along what I heard yesterday.

Couldn't some guy who hates the Nexus S take the Gingerbread ROM and just make it work with the N1? I mean, if the guy was really pissed at Google and Samsung, then I guess it could be possible, no?

Sent from my Nexus S

seems like itd be possible but i imagine itd be much harder then it sounds

Gingerbread has to be finished already for the Nexus One because I am sure there are still plenty of Google employees who use the Nexus One as their primary phone.

I think the delay has everything to do with marketing. The Nexus S still hasn't been released in the UK (Dec. 22), and Google probably doesn't want to upstage the launch there by releasing Gingerbread for the Nexus One.

So in the meantime, we have to sit around and watch devices like the Galaxy S and even the freakin' HD2 get 'unofficial' Gingerbread ports!

I had wait this long for an android phone.. so, I can wait a little longer for gingerbread.

I am not convinced it is a marketing thing, most likely El Goog is finalizing Gingerbread for production N1s and they are taking their time to ensure that everything okay.

Most likely, the core of Ginger is finished and most likely El Goog has a finished candidate in UAT(using employee devices) and if that passes, it will be released as the production ROM.

However, UAT does take some time and while I have no idea El Goog's UAT standards, I know that some companies (my employer being one of them) has a very lengthy UAT process (however, my employer is far more regulated than El Goog is).

A few weeks is tough to swallow because we want it now, (including myself) and it is also a somewhat transparent date as it can be translated a few different ways.

Google you there? These are the people that faithfully bought your superphone without even having the ability to try it out beforehand because we trusted you that much. It would nice if you send us some gingerbread.

Utterly and completely absurd the way Google has handled this.

N1 was my first and probably my last Android device if this sort of amateur hour treatment is what I have to look forward to.
