The Official Where's My Ginger Bread Thread

So, what will gingerbread add to the phone?

I mean, I already know, but it's for my friend. He wants to know.

Promise.

Honestly, nothing that great. The TB doesn't have NFC, right? And HTC already has some of this other stuff built into sense.

- Updated user interface design
- Support for extra-large screen sizes and resolutions (WXGA and higher)
- Native support for SIP VoIP telephony
- Support for WebM/VP8 video playback, and AAC audio encoding
- New audio effects such as reverb, equalization, headphone virtualization, and bass boost
- Support for Near Field Communication
- Improved system-wide copy–paste functionalities
- Redesigned multi-touch software keyboard
- Enhanced support for native code development
- Audio, graphical, and input enhancements for game developers
- Concurrent garbage collection for increased performance
- Native support for more sensors (such as gyroscopes and barometers)
- A download manager for long-running downloads
- Improved power management and application control
- Native support for multiple cameras
- Switched from YAFFS to the ext4 filesystem

Ha! Awesome. I think NFC is one of the bigger things in the Nexus S with gingerbread, is it not? And on Engadget's review they mentioned weird contacts by the camera that could be used for that. And hopefully it could be upgraded to that when 2.3 or 2.4 comes out. I hope any phone gets an update here soon so we know what the next iteration of Android is even.

The keyboard is the biggest win see, especially if you have used it yet.

Actually this is a valid question. HTC has already announced the Incredible S and several other phones will get GB 2.4 this summer (June I thought) so why is the TB absent from the early announcement line up?

Another reason I started this is because HTC upgraded the Evo to froyo 6 weeks after its release.

Didn't Bennnnn or BlackManX say something like Gingerbread (and battery optimization) was in the update terms HTC had to agree with, and to expect it in June at the latest?

Yes. Bennnnn said it was coming as soon as may, but by June the latest.
