The OnePlus 5 Review Thread

Re: I saw this review in official OP5 forum

I was excited to order one and now I am worried. How bad is the camera? I have S7, iPhone 7 plus, honor 8. They are all very good camera. How do they compare?

Re: I saw this review in official OP5 forum

As someone who takes probably 2-3 pictures a month, of non important objects, having the single best camera out there in a phone is quite meaningless. Give me a fast phone with good coverage, and good screen (don't see the point of 4K on a damn 5 inch screen) and I'm there.

Nothing close to what you owned

Do you have the device? Can you share your photos and show us where you don't like it?

I mean, I could just read and literally say "its bad". That is not we are looking for. We would be happy to see some samples and would happily discuss whether its good or bad.

Judging from how well the pixel, the s7 series and the iPhone 7 series did on the dxomark, I don't think the OPO5 might come close. All the paid reviews from the usual reviewers called the picture quality "okay to good" from initial impressions. No one really screamed "wow". I'm sure it'll faster than the S8 but it may not come close to picture quality IMO.

Three things:

First: You are comparing a budget phone with the other phones that cost atleast $200 more than OnePlus 5. Of course you are getting better camera with the Pixel, S7/S8 and iPhone 7 series.

Second: You can ignore the individual paid reviewers, but trust our own Android Central? Here is the camera review.

Third: OnePlus 3T software update improved the camera and picture quality. I have no doubt we would see similar updates pushed to the 5, especially for the portrait mode. So, there is still time to see how good or bad the camera is.

My question to the OP is that, without using the device, owning one and using the camera, how can the OP conclude its worse?

Just common camera knowledge can let u know the photo/video quality.
Why s8+/pixel/u11 have the best photo/video quality? Big sensor

What senor in op5? A budget phone oppo r9s small sensor

And all pretty good to top camera phones have ois except pixel. Google explained they use very big sensor so no ois is ok

Op5 does not have ois

Except op5 can be like apple having next gen level camera software, its hardware is too weak that it cannot be good. Also op is famous for bad camera software like people with 3t still always have problem to even just autofocus.

I get the "at least 200 more than other flagships" point. But is the camera quality really that better than, let's say the Moto G5 which is available for around 199 these days.

Can we honestly not call the OnePlus 5 a budget phone?

$479 to $539 may be cheaper than equivalent flagships, but it's also not cheap either.

Re: I saw this review in official OP5 forum

Can we stop with th whole “200” more argument. The g6 is 500$ and the s8 with trade in deal is under $450. These are both better phones feature wise than the OP5 and priced equally or less. Oneplus is now pricing itself in th flagship price range and is lacking features that the real flagships have. Now a days all of these major flagships go down in price over 100$ within weeks of release and even are offered as a BOGO with tons of added value including sd cards, VR headsets, smart home devices, headphones, Netflix, etc. so let’s drop the whole “value” argument.

Re: I saw this review in official OP5 forum

Dannyar is right, the One5 lost its value that the previous devices had, it's not budget device nor it's cheap, G6 and S8 have major discounts and comes with goodies, and have much more features than One5.

This phone is far from impressive.

I wouldn't necessarily count the discounts as the way to compare between devices selling more or less. OP's strategy now could be different and they have built their sales around fans, not normal users. To them, this is still a good deal starting with 6GB/64GB and the option to get 8GB/128GB.

Discounts on flagship devices change, and what they last for a month? What about then?

Also I believe the median price for what we call a budget phone too has changed. We see this in the flagship devices - prices don't come down, they are going up for whatever reasons.

I am getting mine today. I will have to test and see how bad/good it is. But I can report back and discuss once I have used the device.

Re: The OnePlus 5 Video Reviews Thread

Real'er reviews from people that actual purchased the phone with their real money would be great..

Re: The OnePlus 5 Video Reviews Thread

I think the point is that folks who get early access to the devices sent to them at no charge and the press kits and all that are not always unbiased in their reviews. If they serve up a rotten review, they risk the company they're reviewing cutting them off from future review devices.
