The phone is ready, it's just.....

Ya know what, while browsing through all of the "Nervous Nexus" threads ranting about the obvious, I decided to look into the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. And ya know what, that's a pretty damn good phone. I'm gonna go as far to say that it looks even better than the Nexus that hasn't even been released! I mean check specs and you'll surely agree. I'm going to an AT&T store today to look at it and can't rule out not jumping the big red ship for AT&T. I'm out of contract, and why wait when there's the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket that blows away the RAZR and Nexus!

What really sells me on it is it has the best of both the RAZR and Nexus without sacrifice.
- 16GB Internal
- Micro SDHC up to 32GB
- Removable battery
- 4.5" Super AMOLED screen!
- 8MP Camera

I mean c'mon, that's everything the Nexus and RAZR have rolled into one badass phone. After looking at it I might be leaving VZW, screw waiting around on VZW.

TouchWiz and the most important thing...instant-updates from Google. Who knows how long you'll be stuck on Gingerbread with a Skyrocket.

Edit: You forgot the 4.65inch Super AMOLED HD screen! The Nexus has the most futuristic screen on the Market and the Skyrocket is stuck with 840x480...

Yeah according to their website they didn't launch LTE in my market yet. So I could just go with the regular Galaxy S2 then and upgrade later. Heck both AT&T and Verizon won't have their LTE networks built out till 2013 so why hurry to get an LTE device now. They still have their HSPA+ in Pennsylvania.

What do you mean "from everything I've heard, you don't want AT&T". Their coverage map shows blanketed voice and data where I live in PA and I have a ton of co-workers with AT&T iPhones and my Dad has the original Galaxy S and he gets good coverage.

It might be the thing for you, then. All I can say is that my own experience at home in DC and travelling up the corridor to NYC has not been very good. AT&T "covers" just about everywhere, but the level of service for me has not been great. Too many areas where I don't get a good signal (or any signal at all) and the Verizon folks seem to have no problems.

I had Verizon on my flip phone and switched to AT&T during their period of iPhone exclusivity. Never ever had a dropped call on Verizon, but it happens regularly on AT&T. I wasn't using much data on my old flip phone obviously, but I know enough about it from others to know it's a problem here in DC. Maybe your area is different. The experience of your local friends/family would obviously be more relevant than mine.

If you're going to go to AT&T, you might as well get a Skyrocket rather than a first-gen SGS2 anyway, since you'll be more future-proof for the next couple years. AT&T seems to be rolling out their LTE network pretty quickly in major markets.

One big sticking point to me. It doesn't have ICS, plus it probably has Samsungs skin over the os.

Hmm, now that does make it harder to leave AT&T if it's true around my area. Because Verizon around here is rock solid with 3G data. I would hate to leave VZW's great voice & data to have crappy on AT&T. I'm going to have to poll more friends, family and co-workers before I make the jump.

That's definitely the thing to do. Carrier strength is extremely local, and you might live in a better area for AT&T than I do.

A lot of the best reviews for AT&T phones seem to come from places like Texas and Georgia, where AT&T is known to provide excellent service. I try to look for reviews that are as local to me as possible.

There is only 1 question Verizon needs to answer - "Will this be a true Nexus phone, or will they add bloatware?"

If the answer is no added crap, they can take their time releasing it, IF the delay is to work out all the bugs ICS and the phone have. The UK launch reviews are not exactly glowing.

But if we end up getting the same phone bu added VZW crap, then screw them.

Rumor has it that there will be two bloatware apps: My Verizon, and the VZ Appstore.

The thing about the skyrocket is att's 4g footprint is so small. So, great if its in your area...but when you leave 4g chances are slim of getting back on until you return. Unlike vz's footprint which is huge.

Would the phone auto revert to their "3.5G" HSPA+? I wouldn't complain about that, then eventually when they launch it I'd be ready.

This is true, I live not far from ATL and, I've never had a issue with At&t when I used it. T-mobile's service isn't bad either. Verizon is heavily supported at my work and, it's the only phone service that's gets 3G service in the building (due to the repeaters). However the data speed on Verizon's 3G is pretty bad. Since I run a business on the side, calls are important so, Verizon wins there and, I get a discount through my job. LTE is also very impressive.

Yes, that is what you'd get on the Skyrocket if you aren't in an LTE area yet. Reviews I've read of AT&T's HSPA+ have been pretty good, but it's not like the LTE from either AT&T or VZW.
