The RAZR's top secret weapon: Smart Actions

Is there a similar app that can be used on other phones? I had the Razr and liked this functionality (Other than it wouldn't allow me to turn on Wifi upon arriving at home), but I traded it in for the Nexus and would like something similar.

I have timeriffic, which is OK, but not great.

I have been a guy who has constantly complained about my Razr's battery life since day 1. Here is what I have done recently: Turned off smart actions and use no programs to turn off cell signal or data and when under normal use at work (no wifi) I managed to lose around 25% every four hours. I do use my phone a lot during work as well. This was moderate use, web surfing/messaging/email. This equates to about 12 hours of use. I actually had worse battery life with smarts actions turning data on and off and all the other settings I had going. I do use the Task Manager to shutdown certain apps after the screen is off for 2 minutes and I think this makes the biggest difference.

What I really want it for is to control my volume at night, and to have something that turns my wifi on automatically when I get home.

I actually thought about this and was gonna try it to see if it made a difference. Saw SA running with System Panel Lite and it got me to thinking. With the way I use SA its set to manual anyway so I dont know if this is the same as not using it or not having it running 24/7.

Thanks! That is a big deal, though. I haven't looked into Tasker yet, but if you have to root the phone to do anything that the RAZR does unrooted, that does make the RAZR more ideal for the masses. I have CyanogenMod7 on my Nook Color, but I'm reluctant to root a device whose functioning I want to hold Verizon and Motorola accountable for, should I need an exchange or other assistance.

I have the same Nook and Os and Phone Newest Razr, I'm hoping you can share some of your tips.

I'm looking to add smart actions to my nook. I don't want to have it check twitter or other social apps, email ect... while I'm sleeping. I have the apps on the nook just in case I pick it up and want to utilize for these services. Can you share which apps you have loaded on both nook and Razr?

Also it looks like I'll be deleting this profile and updating as I really thought I'd have the bionic for a while... Guess I wasn't as clever as I thought.

Thanks

"These are the Smart Actions that give me such good battery life:

Low Battery Saver - This Smart Action is a standard one that Motorola makes available. If the battery level is less than 20% and the device is not charging, the phone automatically sets the display brightness to 25%, turns off GPS, and disables background data synchronization.

Battery Extender - This is another standard one that Motorola makes available. If the display is off, the phone is not charging, and the phone does not detect motion, the phone automatically turns GPS off and disables background data synchronization.

Sleeping - This custom Smart Action is the magic trick for maximizing battery life. If the display is off, the phone is not charging, and it is 0 to 55 minutes after the hour, both cellular data (4G/3G) and background synchronization are disabled. In other words, LTE is kept off except when I need it. Data is only synchronized during a 5 minute window every hour, unless the display is on and I'm using the phone.

Wi-fi Only - This is another custom Smart Action. If I have a wi-fi connection and the phone is not charging, cellular data (4G/3G) is turned off. I don't really need to be wasting juice on 4G when I'm on wi-fi."

Would "Battery Extender" and "Sleeping" be a bit redundant with the background synch being disabled with each Smart Action? I set up Low Battery Saver, Battery Extender and Sleeping and I've already noticed a huge saving in battery life.

Hope you're still seeing this, lol.

Thanks in advanced.

Because of this thread I started using smart actions more... HUGE difference in battery life and its actually just more convenient lol how did I not do this before?

Hi,
Quick question: how did you set the smart action under Sleep to sync data during 5 minutes every hour?

Thanks!!

Thanks, do I need to setup each hour for the 0-55 sleep rule?

Well i keep background data turned off and auto sync and i still have to charge a couple times a day with very little use, just checking Facebook and sometimes no phone calls at all and forgot to say I check email a few time s in a day

I set mine up as prescribed to sleep with everything off for 55 mon out of the hour. Just checked history on battery.
7am 100%
1pm. 70%

I have only sent /received under 5 sms
And maybe 2 calls.

That's 30% loss in 6 hours, can anyone provide feedback if this is acceptable?

Also I'm in a quandary regardingnis it working? The only way to check if the smart alert is active is if the phone is off? Kinda like the if a tree falls in the forest does it make a sound?

I wish the smart actions were a little smarter. I had it set to enable Bluetooth when i was connected to my home wifi network, which is when i use my headset. When i got in the car while talking and left wifi range, smart actions cut off the Bluetooth connection in the middle of my conversation. :-(

As for the strategy of allowing data connections only once in a while, juicedefender (and other programs, probably) has an option to enable connectivity on a schedule (every 5, 15, 30 minutes, etc). It's made a huge difference in battery life for me.

It was a bit of work. Open the Smart Actions app, pull up the menu, select My Profile, and then select Timeframes. Now create a timeframe for every period of time where you don't want the phone to do synchronization. I'm using these: 1am-5:55am, 6am-6:55am, 7am-7:55am, etc., hourly until my last one at 12am-12:55am. Then create a timeframe trigger that employs all of these newly created timeframes, having the smart action disable cellular data for each of these timeframes.

I would have preferred a little bit more support for doing this sort of thing, but this works.

I did the time frames and disabled:
Gps
Cellular data
Background sync

Should I also disable wifi? Doesn't that also eat battery?

I have another setting if connected to home wifi disable:
Cellular data and gps.

Then at night she can just sleep. Will these conflict?

I have a home wifi I was told vzw's data is not charged when I'm on wifi but with the new ics it looks like I'm using it while on wifi too.

It really should not be this confusing for me.

I've set up a few custom ones that are making my life easier.

Headphones - When I plug headphones in it automatically adjust media volume to 50%. No more blowing out my ears when I plug my earbuds in with media playing, and no need to manually adjust the volume before hand.

Home message - I travel for work, which involves a fair bit of night driving. I set a location based trigger to send my wife a text saying I've arrived safely. I don't have to mess with it and now she sleeps better knowing I'm ok.

I listen to my podcasts way to loud, on the back of motorcycle.
Maybe I should set up my sons with I'm home then I wont have to continue to worry.

I bought local to use with astrid on bionic on the razr a lightbulb went off. It does the same thing. Now when I'm close to one of my stores my grocery list opens and a notification goes off

I have set the work action up to turn off my ringer and turn on vibrate when I am at my work location. I cannot use wifi at work because it is not available to me. The work smart action does not work. It worked for about 15 minutes today and then the ringer turned back on. It worked yesterday, all day, but not at all on Saturday. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Any suggestions?
