I know we all saw that play book where the off contract price will be $499, however after making several calls to 3 sprint stores and 2 bestbuy stores, i was informed that it will ring up for $550 before tax and bestbuy was telling me that it could be anywhere from 600-700 bucks...damn

Well you can save some money if you buy from Amazon, it's $529.99 with no new contract. Might find it cheaper somewhere else as well.

Best Buy always jacks up the retail price for some reason. Remember that for you guys in California, since you'll be paying sales tax on that jacked up retail price if you purchase on a contract. Best Buy retailed the Palm Pre for $829.99 two years ago.

Sprint almost always has the cheapest full retail price right out of the gate, but there may be some cheaper offers online.

Best buy jacks up the price so they make money on a contract or off contract.

Well 600 sounds about right. For best buy, I bought my nexus s 4g at best buy with buyback program so if i trade it in today, i'll get 60% of my value which then i can use towards the galaxy S2 which makes the phone for me only 279

The maximum amount you can get with buyback is 50% if it's traded in within 6 months of purchase.
