The Samsung fold or Motorola razor fold

As title says...I think that Motorola did it better. Folds to smaller form and opens to a better size. It's a little light on the specs, but Motorola brought back the startac in a smart phone. I think they are onto something myself, thoughts?

Well I was holding off to see if the moto did actually develop before I chose. Now that we know I'm going with the fold myself.

While i love the design of the razr over the fold I much prefer the specs of the fold over the razor. Also I want the larger screen for content viewing.

So I'm planning to order the fold over the next couple of days.

I haven't seen any of them myself. I know I loved the startac I had, so I'll wait to see how that does. I probably won't get that as first generation either, and the Motorola needs a little better specs, I agree. I'll probably stick with my note 10+ for another year. Hopefully they both improve with specs, I just know me personally, I like the way the Motorola gets smaller and opens to the size comparable to what we have now.

I think it totally depends on what you're looking for. If you want tablet-sized real estate for productivity and media creation, then the Galaxy Fold is the better bet. If portability is important (i.e., you don't want a giant slab bulging out of your front pocket, making people wonder if you're just glad to see them), then the Razr would be great. Personally, I think the use case for productivity on the Galaxy Fold isn't very compelling, especially considering how most Android developers have abandoned the tablet form factor. If I'm going to do some heavy duty work, I'll use my Chromebook. But I always bring my phone with me, and I wouldn't mind being able to slip it easily in and out of a pocket.

I'm not interested in either at this time, since I could purchase a Chromebook to add to my S10+ for the same price.

I'm also unwilling to be an early adopter of a new form factor that seems like it has issues with durability.

I'm not that concerned about the specs at this moment, as I've already said both need better specs. The Samsung should have better specs, it's bigger.

My main point is the form factor. I personally think Motorola went the better way, make current size phones smaller for transport and open to make size of current phones. Not as bulky. I haven't seen any of them, apparently the sales aren't that great for my area stores to display the Samsung, and of course the Motorola isn't available yet, so that's just speculation.

I'm guessing the Motorola form factor will appeal to the average consumer more as it has enough specs for them and it is $500 cheaper because of that, and they will like the fact it gets smaller and opens up to the current size now.

I agree the razr is all about form factor. The “fold” is all about a folding tablet that still doesn’t become very pocketable unless you wear cargo pants. I’m looking forward to see how it fares after release. I hope it does well, but we don’t know yet how well the screen will hold up being opened and closed possibly a hundred times a day. If this 1st gen does well and a 2nd is released next year I may very well pony up the dough and get one. I have a couple of good phones that I’d rather not discard yet but in another year? That’ll give Moto time to iron out some 1st gen kinks. I really like what I’ve seen so far in reviewer videos. As far as not having the newest chip, this may bother a lot of tech nerds but as long as it’s fast enough and it seems to me it does well then it’s not an issue. All chips become old after a year anyway so if your keeping your phone more than a year then it’s old? Nah

from what I read, the fold 2 will be more like Motorola's phone. personally if I had to choose between the two, I would stick with the fold - more screen.

My Note 10+ (with pixel 3 XL trade in) and Tab S6 (top model, MINT condition) cost me both combined $1,200 lol. I think I am set for a very long while. Folding phones got couple more generations at minimum before they are something I would buy. That said, I'll definitely choose Samsung Fold.

The prices will come down as these go through iterations, so that isn't something that worries me. The Motorola one is what I am interested in. My wife in particular has been hanging on to an iPhone SE because she wants a small phone, and frequently still mentions her old flip phone that she loved. She'd still have a flip phone if it had a decent camera and could text more easily. She carries an LTE iPad in her purse so she doesn't need a big phone.

As for me, I remember the Samsung i300, i330, etc.; and the Kyocera 7135. These were incredibly compact Palm based smartphones that were pioneers. This new Motorola is extending that path and I can't want for this form factor to get out there and the prices to stabilize. I personally have on interest in something that fold out into a small square tablet at this point.

These are exciting times as what appeared to be a market where everyone was ending up with a rectangular slab of glass with different software options to now a real innovation space in hardware again.
